Roth-a-ghee

Or

Ro-tieg

I would guess if it's Irish. Can't say I see anything nice about it either way in terms of how it looks or how it (might) sound.

GottaGetThisDone · 29/12/2017 00:33

Just saw it on a news report and had no idea at all how to say it in my head lol

Rogie (hard g)

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 29/12/2017 00:34

It’s not an Irish name I’ve ever seen tbh. Where did you see it?

At a guess it would be Roth-eye-e Confused

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 29/12/2017 00:35

Is it Scots Gaelic?

How is this name pronounced?

A question to which your DC will quickly become accustomed if you use this name!

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 29/12/2017 00:37

Just googled and seen it is.

In Irish it's pronounced Roth-a-gee. But it's not a name, at least not one that I've ever heard of.

BlazingPaddles · 29/12/2017 00:49

Well that's a doozie!

Roth is 'wheel' isn't it? I'm going to pretend this name means wheelie.

wooster16 · 29/12/2017 00:55

I read that same DM article too Grin
I just thought for the tenth boy the mum ran out of names!

SnipSnipMrBurgess · 29/12/2017 00:57

It's apparently gaelic for a series of waterfalls in the highlands of Scotland

But I'm Irish and would have said it had some thing to do with bikes.

Either way I think you pronounce it pre-ten-tious .......

Halfpint2017 · 29/12/2017 01:00

Yes Roth is the Scottish Gaelic for wheel as well! Although I’ve never heard of these waterfalls before she definitely ran out of names 😂

Mrsknackered · 29/12/2017 01:34

She's a MN user, she's been on the baby names board about his name before (on an identical thread!)

Tbf by the time I got to my tenth son Id be all out of options too so why not pluck for something left base.

I struggled naming my one son.

k2p2k2tog · 30/12/2017 10:38

I'm as Scottish as they come and it's not one I've come across. Yes I've heard of the Falls of Rogie, but I'm not convinced that's the same name. ALthough it may be the Anglicised version like Ruaraidh/Rory.

If it is Rogie, that's a decent enough name. Could be a lot worse. And fair play to anyone with 10 boys...
