..,what other names do you think would be our thing? Mainly girls names were looking for but could do with boys recommendations too if any spring to mind.
Love Cressida and Ophelia but neither can be used for one reason or the other and can't seem to find anything else we like Xmas Biscuit

Thank-you so much! I adore Hermione - how do you think people will react? Too obviously HP?

I like Ophelia and Hermione. Not a fan of Cressida though Cressie is a really sweet nickname.

Re Hermione being too Harry Potter. Hermione has both Shakespearean and Greek mythological roots. It really irritates me that this name is singled out as “too Harry Potter”, when Luna, which nobody outside of Spanish speaking countries before Hp and also has slightly dodgy playground taunts, has got away Scott free!

I'm not posh-bashing Confused but those are two names that call attention to themselves. There are prettier names in Shakespeare's plays. Hermione is better than Ophelia or Cressida. Even if HP made Hermione popular she's a strong character. Ophelia, well, she drowned, although I do commend her for the speech she gave to Laertes calling him out on his hypocrisy about double standards for men/women! But it's a lot of baggage to give to somebody else to carry. I don't think you can just blithely say ''oh nonsense, it'll be fine''. Cressida is just no my taste but at least it's not Ophelia. Fia or Lia would be nicknames that could be extracted from given name Ophelia though

Hermione doesn't sound nice to my ears. There are some 'posh' names I like but Hermione just sounds a bit 'whiny'

My suggestions:

Rosalind
Belinda
Marianne / Marianna
Geraldine
Letitia
Desdemona
