Daisy with a Spanish surname, is it too horrible?

We were looking into Lottie before as a nickname for Charlotte or Loretta and that is still a possibility

How about Daisy though? Is it too strange with a Spanish surname and siblings with Spanish origin names? their names though are internationally used so people are accustomed to them and many people in the UK use them here anyways without being Spanish

Maybe a little strange but I’d be very surprised if it was actually horrible.

MeeWhoo · 20/12/2017 14:00

Do you live in the UK? If so, I think it's fine, but if you live in Spain it may sound a bit like a soap opera star's name.

Notreallyarsed · 20/12/2017 14:01

There’s a celebrity (no idea who she is or what she does) called Daisy Fuentes and it seems to work for her.

WildRosesGrow · 20/12/2017 14:05

I think Daisy is a lovely name and would be fine with a Spanish surname.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 20/12/2017 14:09

I am in Italy and have a Daisy + Italian surname. Surprisingly she wasn't (as I.had imagined) the only Daisy there, but one of two.

Mum8 · 20/12/2017 15:57

Thank you, good to know it may work as it has been done 😉 Though I have to say when I say it out loud, it does not sound right

I can't imagine it would sound very nice. Also, I much prefer Charlotte and Loretta.

XmasTreeOhXmasTree · 20/12/2017 16:50

Daisy is a cow's name (sorry).

Postsynapticdensity · 20/12/2017 17:12

Is it Spain or South America or the UK? I think it's very common in south america to have names like" "Jeanette Rodriguez", "Jennifer Lopez" etc and it wouldn't sound strange but in Spain it will sound soap operaish. English names are also used in jokes sometimes to represent poorly educated people :(. Sorry if it's not what you want to hear, I'm being brutally honest. The law has changed now of course, but it wasn't so long ago that a foreign name would be translated automatically on the civil register, so you would insist on Daisy and the officer would write Margarita, and if you refused and didn't come up with something in 3 days, the officer would choose for you!.

Mum8 · 20/12/2017 17:16

We are in the UK

How about Greta? Not Spanish but I like it with our Spanish last name Or Lorena rather than Loretta.

Do these sound better? And do you have a preference? Do you like both?

Isn't Daisy an accepted nickname for Margaret? So, how about Margarita?

Mum8 · 20/12/2017 17:55

Prefer Daisy or Greta as I’m not sure why but not fond of Margarita.
Maybe Margareta or Margreta could be an option but as with other DC we kind of wanted a first name that we also love and call them like this most times
Now I’m thinking maybe:
Greta
Lorena or
Loretta
Comes down to these 3 options

Carlotta!!!

Postsynapticdensity · 20/12/2017 18:38

Loretta sounds strange to me because it sounds like a version of Loreto. Also with a Spanish surname I personally would stick to English or Spanish, just because I would prefer it less sort of.."foreign" busy, if that makes any sense, so I would avoid Greta (unless real name was Margaret?) or Loretta. (It's only the opinion of a random online, you choose what you love!).

Lorena is really nice, will obviously go with the surname. Carlota is lovely too.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 20/12/2017 18:41

❤️ Greta.

XmasTreeOhXmasTree · 20/12/2017 18:55

Love Greta

horatioisabrick · 20/12/2017 18:57

Carlotta is lovely! Lorena is also nice.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 20/12/2017 21:13

Carlotta and Loretta are very old fashioned, at least here. I like Greta though.

laelti · 21/12/2017 13:36

I think Lorena is lovely - though I am rather biased as it's the Spanish version of my name and what a few of my Spanish speaking friends call me! I just like the flow of it.

Also, it isn't necessarily the most natural shortening but not too far from Lottie - my Auntie is Lorraine and uses Lottie.

VitriolicMuse · 21/12/2017 13:43

Our son has a Welsh first name & middle name and a Portuguese last name! It’s unusual but it suits him and it’s the sort of name you don’t forget. I wouldn’t worry!

BewareOfTheToddler · 21/12/2017 13:50

Should be fine as long as your surname isn't Diaz Grin.

kaytee87 · 22/12/2017 04:54

Well my son has a traditional scottish/British name with a Persian surname. My dh is the same. I don't think it matters.
