Also slightly in love with the name Vereesa but that's probably too blatantly geeky/"out there"!

Don't like Vereesa. Might be difficult for a child to pronounce and looks like Vanessa to me.

Diana is Princess Diana to me, so a good person to honour. However, the name just sounds too oudated IMO.

I prefer Madeleine the most from your suggestions. People will without asking shorten it to Mad/Mads/Maddy, so you have to be prepared for this.

Matilda is very popular and not to my taste.

RavenWings · 11/12/2017 19:54

Vereesa seems like a sort of disease to me. I like Vanessa though.

Matilda - have a very strong personal dislike of this, have only ever taught spectacularly bold ones.

Madeleine is pretty but a bit dull.

Diana is absolutely gorgeous, I think older people might wonder about a Princess of Wales connection, but not those her own age.

JollyGiraffe · 11/12/2017 19:57

I like Madeleine. It is pretty and I like the nickname Maddy.

Diana is a nice name but not sure about shortened to 'Di', which would inevitably happen. Also agree with others it is slightly outdated.

I like it as a middle name though- Madeleine Diana Smile

MadameJosephine · 11/12/2017 20:02

Don’t like Diana

Matilda is too popular

Madeleine is beautiful

Vereesa is horrible. Vanessa is better or how about Veronica or valerie?

bridgetreilly · 11/12/2017 20:32

Madeleine or Matilda.

I still can't with Diana, sorry.

ChocolateCrunch · 11/12/2017 20:40

Diana - never liked it, sorry
Madeleine - know quite a few, and always shortened to Maddie/Maddy/Mads
Matilda - like this!
Vereesa - sounds too similar to verruca to me, so how about Vanessa?

RooKangaroo · 11/12/2017 21:00

I didn't even think of Princess Diana.

I thought of Diana Prince - Wonder Woman! Love it!

MikeUniformMike · 11/12/2017 21:05

I like Diana.
I don't like Madeleine or Matilda. I don't dislike them but they are a bit too popular. I don't like Maddy and Tilly is just ok.

Vereesa is a new one on me and it's a No.

Vanessa I like. Ness/Nessa for short.

Santasbigredbobblehat · 11/12/2017 21:09

Is Vareesa an elf?

Diana is my favourite.

Uhohmummy · 11/12/2017 21:10

I love Diana, makes me think of the Huntress. It’s a strong and feminine name.
Also like Madeleine but don’t like Maddy. It may not be inevitable though.
I do like Matilda for the historical connotations and would use it but it is very popular where I live (north London).
Don’t like Vereesa (which I actually read as Vanessa at first).

parrotonmyshoulder · 11/12/2017 21:14

I wasn’t brave enough for Diana with DD, 9 years ago. I would be now. Love it.

NinonDeLenclos · 11/12/2017 21:39

Love Matilda but it is very popular, Maud is a lovely diminutive.

Maddy/Madeleine is just too everywhere.

Don't know about Diana.

What about Venetia instead of Vereesa.

Emelene · 11/12/2017 21:43

Personally my favourite of those 3 is Matilda. Smile

RickOShay · 11/12/2017 22:33

I love love Diana. Please use itGrin

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 12/12/2017 19:52

Yes, Diana is lovely !

nooka · 12/12/2017 20:07

I think that Diana is likely to make a bit of a comeback because of Wonder Woman and so will not have such a strong Princess Di association going forward.

Googling Vereesa brings up a character in world of Warcraft and nothing else, so yes it is very geeky - those not in the know I think will assume it's made up.

PinkAvocado · 12/12/2017 20:15

Love Matilda. I’ve never taught one and don’t know any under 20 yet it’s a great name. It’s was only number 25 on England ONS last year so not overly popular at all.

buttercup54321 · 13/12/2017 23:09

Horrid. Princess Diana. Hate Di as shortening
Madelaine McCann
Matilda a kids film
Vereesa sounds like a posh version of Vera
