Popularity of John?

We decided on simple, classic John for a boy. We don't like trendy/faddy names and liked the fact that John was around the top 100, so he'd probably be the only one in his class, etc etc. Now I've just seen it's shot up to 56 in the latest Babycentre charts!

In your esteemed opinions/crystal balls is John going to keep getting more popular? It's the only name we really like, but it's bugging me a bit!

Thanks in advance for your thoughts Smile

I know a Jonathan nn Jonny but no John's. I can't imagine it's about to boom in popularity but who knows

I've always thought that double first name John Henry is very handsome though

I really like John. I know a couple over 50. Nice name.

Buntysoven · 14/12/2017 00:43

I love the strength and simplicity of it.

I love John. It was my DF's name, and is now my DS2's middle name 😊

It is a wonderful name for a boy. Never mind the popularity . If you love it use it.

My youngest is John. Not Jonathan or anything just John. We get compliments on it all the time and I don’t know any John’s his age at all.

John is a big name in our family, my grandad, uncle & brother. My DS's middle name is John.

You can't go wrong with the name John!
Sounds dead cute for a baby/toddler & more than adequate for an adult!

There are 2 in DS's school in two different year groups. One is John and the other is known as Johnny.

PinkCrystal · 17/12/2017 01:27

I don't know any younger than about 30/40.

Misspilly88 · 17/12/2017 01:31

There's a John at a class we attend. I was surprised to hear the name.

Hannabee123 · 28/12/2017 04:30

John is very popular there's 6 johns on my street. Me and my partner just relate each john to something so we don't get confused for example crispy john, dented wingmiror john.

It's a nice name though and who gives a monkey's if it's popular. I find you never really come across them then in one area there will just be a couple

BitOfFun · 28/12/2017 05:29

John is a fine name. I understand what you mean about not really wanting them to be one of three in their class, but I doubt you will find that. It's much more likely if you choose a name like Ryan or Dylan.

ohamIreally · 28/12/2017 06:25

I read somewhere that in the Middle Ages one in three men in England was named John which makes the top 100 lists pale in comparison Shock

Emilybrontescorsett · 28/12/2017 09:05

DD would have been Jon, spelt that way.
I don't know any little John's/Jons.
It's a great solid name.

I am a community midwife in SE London and don't think I have ever met a baby John! Which is a shame as it is a lovely name. Have had 2 Brians, a Kevin and a Jason in this last year though so who knows what will have a resurgence in popularity!
