Do they rhyme in your accent?

They rhyme.

Pretty much. They rhyme if you say Samuel with the two syllables but if you assentuate the u-el then it’s three and it kind of doesn’t. I think most people will say the names so they do rhyme.

Assonance

WanderingTrolley1 · 06/12/2017 03:31

No, they don’t rhyme.

Yes

Yes, south east accent

Not for me, and I was slightly bemused that anyone would think they rhymed, but I tried it MIL's accent, and it did. I think that if you have the sort of accent that is fairly common around London and the surrounding areas where you don't really sound the L at the end of a word, they become dan-yeaw and sam-yeaw. I can't write it properly using normal letters.

Nearly. Too close for brothers, anyway. And Dan and Sam is worse. People will comment thinking they are the only ones who have noticed, which will be very tedious for you and them after the millionth time.....

I knew brothers called Daniel and Samuel and - though they don't quite rhyme in my SE accent, I did instantly think how extremely similar they sound. They had an older brother with a name that couldn't have sounded more different!
