Down to 2 - finalising our choice for a girl

We have narrowed down our girl's name options to two. First, which do you prefer, and secondly would it be okay to have two girls called these names or is it a bit too like "Romeo and Juliet" (I am almost certainly overthinking this!)?

Rosanna
Julia

?

Before anyone suggests alternatives, we have ruled out Rosie, Rose, Rosa, Rosalind, Rosamund, Rosalie, Juliet, Julie, Juliana etc! These are our favourites...

I know several Julia and was just thinking they're all pretty then I remember a truly vile Julia I worked with. The only nice thing I can think of her is that she left.

Helena17 · 29/11/2017 16:02

Rosanna for me! :)

SparkleMotion82 · 29/11/2017 18:26

Rosanna

T00much · 29/11/2017 18:40

Both nice but Rosanna pips it

NamechangeMcNamechangerson · 30/11/2017 21:24

I love Julia but I think Rosanna does pip it, especially given DH's preference. That said I do feel quite strongly that I am carrying a boy...! Thanks all!

I love Julia

Joeybee · 03/12/2017 01:48

I really prefer Julia. Rosanna is a bit plain and boring. Julia sounds elegant and intelligent. Plus Jools/Julie or Jay are all lovely nicknames.
I'm like you, I prefer to head away from trendy, popular names, so Julia being 'dated' is not a bad thing!

Guacamowle · 03/12/2017 01:50

Julia. Love it

MammieBear · 03/12/2017 08:03

Julia gets my vote

GoGoGazelle · 03/12/2017 08:04

Rosanna

Lollipop30 · 03/12/2017 08:11

Rosanna definitely. I actually quite like the name Julia but it’s too outdated for me.

Julia is outdated but in a way that’s not quite come back round again. All the Julia’s I know are about 50. Rosanna is old fashioned which is ready for a comeback.

CPtart · 03/12/2017 09:10

Rosanna (although prefer Rosanne, less frilly and a bit different with all the Ella's and Bella's about).

NamechangeMcNamechangerson · 10/01/2018 18:17

UPDATE: It's a girl! She's not here yet, but likely to be a Rosanna!

Congratulations!

I love both but I think I'd choose Julia as the spelling variations for Rosanna mean you'll definitely have cards with it spelt differently and that would irritate me!

AnyaMoondial · 10/01/2018 19:09

Rosanna is beautiful! Congratulations!

NamechangeMcNamechangerson · 10/01/2018 19:11

Hmm, Rosanna is the standard spelling, I've only once seen an alternative spelling once. I have a name which is hard to spell and/or pronounce, and I love it. If people get it wrong first time then that is absolutely fine. If people continue to get it wrong then I regret their ignorance, but never my name!

Julia has been in my head since I was young and I once mentioned it to a female relative who was insistent that it cannot be pronounced Jool-ee-ah which is how I like it, but must correctly be pronounced Jool-yah. She said if I did ever call my daughter Julia she would be pronouncing it "correctly". So there is really no way of avoiding people being ignorant. Even if you call a girl Jane or Sarah, she might get Jayne or Sara... I'm not a fan of youneeq names, but the inability of some people to spell an ordinary name is not something that would put me off it!
