I love the name Kaia for our baby girl, dh not so keen but it would fit with our 2 older dds names which are slightly more unusual but not daft 🙂 any opinions?

I like it but you'll get the 'is it Kay-ah or 'Ky-ah' pronounciation issues (incidentally I like both!)

Wellonlyifihavetoo · 23/11/2017 16:00

That’s true, might have to play with the spelling a bit!

Keira?...

Wolfiefan · 23/11/2017 17:31

Don't choose any name where you have to "play with the spelling". It will be a nightmare for the child and screams "parent made up my name to try and be yuneeq!"

GummyGoddess · 23/11/2017 17:34

No unique spellings, it sucks for their entire life!

Gaia instead?

Wellonlyifihavetoo · 23/11/2017 18:09

Dh not keen on Gaia either, think il stick with Kaia and wear him down! 😂

Please don't. Is it an actual name?

Brokencrayonsstillcolour · 23/11/2017 19:41

It is an actual name. I know a Kaya and a Kaia, both pronounced Kai-uh

Wellonlyifihavetoo · 23/11/2017 20:05

It’s definitely a name lol 😂 cindy Crawfords daughter is called Kaia.

Not one I have ever heard of. I wouldn't judge a name by whether a celeb uses it or not. Apple anyone?!

Wellonlyifihavetoo · 23/11/2017 20:34

You obviously don’t like it, I get it, opinion noted.Hmm

Kaia is definitely a name. It's Norwegian and Estonian in origin, and is traditionally a diminutive, but is accepted as a standalone name. DH is Norwegian and has a Kaia in his family.

I like it.

Wellonlyifihavetoo · 23/11/2017 22:02

Thank you! 🙂

There was a thread on May Mai recently.
Mai is a Welsh name. Lovely if you're Welsh.
I wouldn't give a Norwegian name to a non Norwegian without any Norwegian connections. Seems very odd.

GoingRogue · 23/11/2017 22:15

I like it - go for it Smile

DramaAlpaca · 23/11/2017 22:17

I like it too, it's very pretty.

Shen0102 · 23/11/2017 22:17

I have a friend with that name pronounced Ka-Ya the name is real .. some names fits babies/toddlers but when they grow into adults the name sounds ridiculous and for me Kaia is one of those names amongst many.

SuperBeagle · 23/11/2017 22:26

Wolfie That makes no sense. Maia is popular (for a similar-sounding example), and I doubt everyone with a Maia is Greek.

Kaia is not unheard of in non-Nordic countries.

Wolfiefan · 23/11/2017 22:27

I wouldn't use a name that had origins I had no connection to. I find it odd.

SuperBeagle · 23/11/2017 22:28

You'd be in the minority, then, Wolfie.

Some of the most popular names in the UK are not English/British in origin.

Veterinari · 23/11/2017 22:39

I wouldn't use a name that had origins I had no connection to. I find it odd.

I’d love to hear your children’s names? Considering many commonly used names are Greek, Latin or Hebrew in origin, it doesn't leave many.

I’m going to assume that as they’re aren't too many Eadwigs and Mildreds around, you’re in the minority.

GoingRogue · 23/11/2017 22:51

One of my children has a Greek name, another a very biblical name.

I'm a British Athiest Grin Just liked the names

sosieso · 25/11/2017 18:29

I know a Kya, she's 14. Pronounced Kai-a. It's ok but definitely not my style.

Wellonlyifihavetoo · 25/11/2017 18:59

That’s how I want it pronounced. If we all liked the same things the world would be a boring place!

I like it. I know one as well.
