Already have a DS who has a Welsh name, we live in Wales, DP has a strong Welsh name, our children will be attending a Welsh medium school, etc....

We are hoping to try for another baby next year and I've been thinking about names. I never thought about this name when pregnant with DS but it suddenly quite appealing to me if we ever have a daughter.

Opinions on Bethan? Is it dated? Do you know of any young Bethans?

I prefer Bethan to Bethany. I know one of each, one goes by Bet which I love.
Especially nice said in a Welsh accent.

Quite like Bethan & know just one, age 5. Really dislike Bethany but like Beth as a shortened version of Bethan a lot.

I find myself saying Bethany, Bethan just sounds unfinished to me. Maybe because I know a Bethany quite well. They're both lovely names, though.

Gorgeous. I know a couple of young-ish Bethans. Much nicer than Bethany imo.

DramaAlpaca · 21/11/2017 21:58

I'm not keen on it, and I don't like Beth or Bethany either.

EskiVodkaCranberry · 21/11/2017 22:15

I know a boy Bethan too Confused

TroysMammy · 21/11/2017 22:17

I once worked with a Betsan.

Poledork · 21/11/2017 22:18

Lots of Bethans in school with me in the 90s. I don't like it or Beth but not sure why. I think maybe it's a bit weak sounding.

Curious as to how it's pronounced in England?

RestingButchFace · 21/11/2017 22:18

I am Welsh I don't know any young ones called Be than but it could be due a comeback as it is very pretty. My favourite Welsh girl's names are Mabli and Manon.

Glumglowworm · 21/11/2017 22:23

I like Bethan more than Bethany, and if you're in Wales people will be used to it more than posters here (those not in Wales I mean)

MikeUniformMike · 21/11/2017 22:24

I much prefer Betsan.

PrincessPlod · 21/11/2017 22:30

I went to school with a Bethan and I’ve never heard the name since. I think it’s pretty

SealSong · 21/11/2017 22:31

Love Bethan, fab name.

booellesmum · 21/11/2017 22:32

I have a Bethany but I love Bethan too.

Jedigirl29 · 05/01/2018 13:18

I am Welsh, live in Wales and my children will be educated through the medium of Welsh. I have two very close friends called Bethan, one goes by Beth, the other by Bea. I like the same and think it’s cute for a child and appropriate for an adult. I don’t think it’s common amongst under 5s which is nice because your child will have a name which is easy to pronounce but not common.

I am not a fan of Bethany, it crosses the line into too cute for me.

I also like Betsan and Betsi.

evilharpy · 06/01/2018 16:01

I know two Bethans. One adult, one child, both very nice people. It's a lovely name.

How is it pronounced in Welsh though? Both Bethans I know pronounce it sort of Beth-Anne with equal emphasis on both syllables.

There’s also Bechan. Not a name I like but it’s an option.
