Awful (sorry)

WhatKatyDidNotDo · 17/11/2017 21:40

The name reminds me of haggis (sorry again)

Xeneth88 · 17/11/2017 21:42

No, I wouldn't. Let alone the film. Aggie will be her nickname and Aggy is such a common used term now. There's so many better, less dreary names.

ArbitraryName · 17/11/2017 21:44

I love Agnes. I always thought I hated it (I associated it with excruciating visits to elderly great aunts), but it turns out that I really like it.

It’s y favourite old lady baby name.

TorNayDoh · 17/11/2017 21:47

Annis is an alternative version of Agnes.

cheeriosatdawn · 17/11/2017 21:56

Agnes is an epic name. Elegant, rare, seriously old-school (in a great way) and serious enough for your daughter to be a judge, an astronaut or anything else her potential might suggest.

The nickname possibilities are as ethereal as the name itself is serious. And her nickname would be what she’s known by - until she needed, or wanted, to have something with more gravitas in the wider world.

And speaking of the wider world: it’s a name that travels very, very well and retains its elegance no matter the geography.

TheVanguardSix · 17/11/2017 21:58

I love Agnes. Beautiful name.

pilates · 17/11/2017 21:59

Sorry no, it’s an ugly name.
Edith is nice.

TheVanguardSix · 17/11/2017 22:01

Edith Confused

OP trust that Agnes is an awesome name. Don't buy into the 'Ines' crap. Wink
Ines is a nice name but it's overdone.

Agnes is just such a cool name.

cheeriosatdawn · 17/11/2017 22:21

Yes yes @TheVanguardSix

JinCa · 18/11/2017 00:08

I love Agnes! We have a Margot and if we'd had another girl she would probably have been Agnes.

OliviaStabler · 18/11/2017 00:10

Agatha is a great name. Edith is not

CountFosco · 18/11/2017 00:20

Agnes is a fab name, go for it!

lizzieoak · 18/11/2017 03:21

I prefer Nesta - isn’t it the Welsh version?

SummerRoberts · 18/11/2017 06:30

How weird- your three DD’s names are my exact girls names list - in that order! My three favourite girls names ever.
I absolutely love Agnes so we must have the same taste. I also love Ines.

robinR · 18/11/2017 07:41

I can't believe no one has mentioned Taggie from Jilly Cooper's Rivals!

Lovely name

yikesanotherbooboo · 18/11/2017 07:50

I like Agnes, Agatha,Edith and Stella , any of them would reflect your other DDs names... How about Sylvia?
As far as nicknames is concerned I wouldn’t worry unless you are planning to use the short version yourselves. I think they develop naturally between the ‘owner’of the name and the users, you can only influence what you call her.

SeamusMacDubh · 18/11/2017 07:57

I like Agnes, chose it for my confirmation saint/name.

If you’ve been put off, Senga is also a lovely name (it’s Agnes backwards but a name in its own right), I can’t remember what the meaning is but I’m sure it’s something lovely

midsomermurderess · 18/11/2017 09:20

Or alternatively, Senga.

Backhometothenorth · 18/11/2017 09:41

Do you like Esther? Biased as I have one but it goes well with your other names and means star which I think is lovely Star

midsomermurderess · 18/11/2017 10:09

seamus, I was being tongue in cheek. Senga does’t have a lovely meaning in Scotland. As urban dictionary puts, it it generally means a female Ned.

Mishappening · 18/11/2017 10:11

I know a wee lass called Agnes - can't say I like it - too harsh and grating.

harrietm87 · 18/11/2017 12:07

Agnes nn Ness is brilliant! Love Agatha too, and your dds names - we must have similar tastes!

PacAMac · 18/11/2017 12:10

I think it's horrible

WhatKatyDidNotDo · 18/11/2017 12:39

I second the 'aggy' comment
