Amy - yay or nay?

I’m leaning towards more simple names.

I think Amy is a good, solid choice. Hubby not so sure!

Is it a bit boring or old?!

Can I your thoughts?!

I have an Amy. We made a good choice. It's not as popular as it was but still nice and you're not likely to get 3 in a class now.

Winterflower84 · 14/11/2017 21:39

Boring, sorry. Not a name that would get a comment like 'oh what a beautiful name she has!' But this is just my opinion.

Needmorehands · 14/11/2017 22:04

Amy is lovely, easy to spell/pronounce and has a lovely meaning (loved)
I can never find personalised items in tourist tat shops for DD spelt Amy instead of Aimee but she doesn't mind as 2 of her siblings have non shop friendly names as well, despite them not being outlandish or odd

Joeybee · 14/11/2017 22:17

It's a nice name. A little beige and dated. The name Amy wouldn't draw any judgements though. Only thing for me is there are no nicknames for it.

Discotits · 14/11/2017 22:21

A good solid bog standard name.

Mulch · 14/11/2017 22:21

Really popular and inoffensive

TheTroutofNoCraic · 14/11/2017 22:24

I've never taught an Amy that I didn't love.

Yes, it’s a gorgeous name

BeanoNoir · 14/11/2017 22:38

Erm, maybe you need to hide the baby names topic - I think this is the whole point of it, JJ Grin

SuperBeagle · 14/11/2017 22:41

Aimee makes no sense to me, because aimée is pronounced nothing like Amy in French.

Amy is nice enough, although I do think it's a bit unexciting.

@ JJBurnelsBass...

Eh why are YOU on the thread then?! Did you pop on just to pass a silly remark?!

Just looking for some opinions as clearly we’re not 100% decided on the name that’s all! Very harmless stuff hun. If this type of thing bothers you I’d suggest you avoid these types of forums and threads.

To everyone else - thank you all for your feedback Smileglad to see so many share my opinion on it being a nice solid name! I think I have hubby on board although he prefers Aimee but if he’ll (eventually!) agree with me on a girls name, we can spell it any way he wants lol!

'yay' is my instinctive reaction. It's sweet and not too commonly used at the moment.

RebeccaWrongDaily · 14/11/2017 23:15

I had a friend called Amy in the 70's, it was short for Amelia, there are a million Amelies/Amelia/Amelies. If this doesn't bother you then go for it.

BikeRunSki · 14/11/2017 23:17

Only thing for me is there are no nicknames for it.

No obvious abbreviations of Amy, maybe (like Samuel to Sam or Bethany to Beth) , but dd has plenty of nicknames. Mainly “Ace”, and others which have nothing to do with her first name.

youokayhun · 14/11/2017 23:22

I'm an Ami with an I! Honestly I don't really like my name but glad it's spelt with an I and not a y or an iee Grin I get called "aim" mostly and prefer it

unhingedtoday · 14/11/2017 23:28

I’m Amy, get called Ames by most of my friends/family

ChocolateCrunch · 15/11/2017 07:26

I like it. Don't know any very young Amys, so as pp said, she won't be one of 3 in her class at school.

regularbutpanickingabit · 15/11/2017 07:32

Love it!

Elllicam · 15/11/2017 07:35

I love it (spelled Amy)

tinypop4 · 15/11/2017 07:41

I love it. It's timeless and I know a lot of nice ones!

amysaurus87 · 15/11/2017 07:52

I'm an Amy and I love my name. It was v popular when I was born, there was another Amy in my class and I think another 3 in my year group. It's not so popular now which is nice if you like uncommon names.

I get called Ames or Aim at work so you can sort of nickname Amy.

There's loads of ways to spell it as well so hopefully you and hubby can find one you both like!

undertheradarplease · 15/11/2017 09:46

My grandmother (aged 90) is called Amy. She's stroppy and bossy brimming with more personality than any other woman I know and I absolutely adore her. The name is a huge yes from me. Just had my 3rd child and I would have loved to use Amy if given a chance.
