... Eloisa?

It's DH's favourite and I'm coming round (I tend to lean towards more unusual names) but I'm not sure how it sounds to others? We would go for Eloisa, not Eloise, as it flows better with our surname.

Also keen to hear shortening/nickname suggestions. Thanks!

Like it!

Shortenings could possibly be Elle/ Ella/ Ellie/ Lois...

ElizaDontlittle · 12/11/2017 04:55

I like it too.
Would probably tend toward Ellie as a shortening but Autumnal is right it gives you loads of options.

whiteroseredrose · 12/11/2017 05:16

Elouisa can be anything she wants!

I like it. It's a bit different but still a proper name. Not old fashioned and not 'fashionable' either. And it won't suggest any particular class either.

A really good choice!

GreyTree · 12/11/2017 05:18

Like it.

Sounds pretty and independent!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 12/11/2017 08:47

Very pretty ! LuLu 😄

ErrantBakedBean · 12/11/2017 10:32

Thanks! I'm glad it doesn't seem to suggest a particular class. I was a bit worried it sounded stuck up somehow?

She’s a person who spends her life saying “no, ELouisa, not LOUisa” 😉

But it’s a lovely name.

AutumnalLeaves38 · 12/11/2017 11:11

No, Eloisa definitely doesn't sound "stuck up", OP! Don't worry.

You've probably been researching the name and know every fact there is to learn, but, just in case not: Google informs me that Eloisa means "spirited, lively, vivid" in Finnish. Smile
Good traits for any child to have.

AutumnalLeaves38 · 12/11/2017 11:25

CAAKE,

Isn't it more of an "oh" sound in Eloisa, though?

Eloisa:
Eh-loh-EEZ-uh (or Eh-loh-EES-uh, maybe, in some accents?)

versus

the "ooh" in
Louisa:
Loo-EEZ-uh (Loo-EES-uh?).

Know what you mean, though!

RavenWings · 12/11/2017 13:53

It's sort of different, but very much following the Ella/Ellie etc trend. I like it, but if you want unusual for the sake of unusual, Eloisa wouldn't be for me.

ErrantBakedBean · 12/11/2017 15:36

CAAKE and whiteroseredrose it sounds like she'll spend her life saying 'no, Eloisa, not Elouisa'! Might be something we should take into account. Thanks for flagging it up.

Autumnal that's lovely - I only knew the French? meaning of healthy and wide! Grin

Raven yes that's my other worry, that it's 'just another Ellie name'. Hmm.

FairyDust855 · 12/11/2017 16:13

To me it's another 'Ellie' name.
