I'm due DC1 and if it's a girl, I'm snookered for names.

I love Irish names, the older and more obscure the better. Some names I love but can't use are:
Fiadhna
Líadan
Éimhín

I'm not looking for your run of the mill Irish names, no Aoifes, Orlas or Aislings please!
I like names of Scottish origin too.

Go raibh maith agaibh Smile thanks!

Réa iltín Saoirse Dara

If DS had been a girl, we were considering Aifric and Eubha (which is Scots Gaelic Ava)

IsThisYourSanderling · 11/11/2017 14:29

Oh and a friend at Gaelic playground has a Flòraidh (pronounced Florrie), which is adorable

Some great names here, loving Muireann and Ailbhe.

I'm not particularly concerned about lumbering my child with a difficult name to pronounce or one that needs to be corrected frequently, c'est la vie and all that.

Not rare but i love Caoimhe! (And Aoife...)

YNK · 11/11/2017 17:50

Nuala (noola) is nice

Rainbowandraindrops67 · 11/11/2017 17:53

I love nuala too but it seems Irish in Ireland sneer at it. I don’t know why it’s a beautiful sounding name and well due a comeback even if abroad and not in Ireland itself

Rainbowandraindrops67 · 11/11/2017 17:54

Muireann is beautiful too

BatteredBreadedOrSouthernFried · 11/11/2017 17:54

Mabvh
Keavy
Kayleigh

There is no V or K in the Irish language!

BatteredBreadedOrSouthernFried · 11/11/2017 17:57

And mabvh is not even a name.

Saorlaith-pronounced sear-la
Reiltin- pronounced rail-teen (little star)
Seodin- pronounced show-deen (little gem/jewel)
There's a fada on the last "I" of reiltin and seodin but not sure how to do that on my phone!

@Gealach what did you go for?
I was delighted to find this thread as we're struggling to find an unusual-ish Irish girls name. Neasa & Muireann are on the list.
DH like Síle & Máire and I like Nóinín & Líadan.
