Inigo? And middle name suggestions?

We’re having a second boy and it was hard enough to choose our first’s name!

Quite a lot of boys names are vetoed by me as I’ve taught a lot of them (sorry!). Inigo (Jones) would have a lot of significance to us and I actually like the accidental link to indigo as I studied art.

Our son has a very common name and an unusual middle one (I wouldn’t have considered using the middle as a first name) but I do inigo - like nn Indy or iggy.

Thoughts? Middle name suggestions?! Last name has a single syllable.

I had a lovely music teacher called Inigo Jones! I like Sebastian as a middle name, or Dominic.

madwoman1ntheatt1c · 04/11/2017 08:21

I don't think it's terrible. I think it's truly brilliant. Grin
My kids would think so too. They didn't ever use it until 11/12, but now, I swear to god, it's one of those super annoying catch phrases that teenagers get hold of and repeat ad nauseum. I can't actually think of any other name that has such a cult following in terms of a catchphrase... lots of names have connotations, but i can't think of another catchphrase based entirely on a name... but now it's driving me crazy. Grin

it would be way cool. plastic swords would be essential.

We almost went with Inigo but chickened at the last minute. I kind of wish we had.
We only use family names as middle names. We have my Dad's name (think traditional like James)

BillywilliamV · 04/11/2017 08:41

Inigo Blue?

Please don’t..,,

tackytriceratops · 04/11/2017 08:52

Ah that’s interesting just. I feel we may chicken out. I’d like not to!

Thomas is a sort of family name.

Inigo Thomas (surname single syllable, not smith!)

Dh has lots of brothers so couldn’t choose between them, and we’re not keen, his dad’s name we’re not keen on, nor my dad’s name. And then all women. My side is very female heavy.

mad, at least one Halloween outfit sorted plus several fancy dress. Ironically Inigo Jones was also a theatre designer. Some of his costumes were very Montoya...

He did Covent Garden. More flower connections :)

There’s an inigo blue musician on fb...

No, I wouldn’t do Blue!

But I like the slight lexical connection to the word indigo.

If your DS1 has "a very common name and an unusual middle name" it's plain unfair to call DS2 Inigo Thomas. Be humane and call him Thomas Inigo.

tackytriceratops · 04/11/2017 09:18

Battle, I’m sure it will go that way, but I’m currently gathering my campaign for it to be first!

And I think Inigo Thomas works better than Thomas Inigo. Plus I hate the tank engine connection!

Progression to Home Land isn’t a bad link either.

daisypond · 04/11/2017 09:29

Sorry, posted too soon. Montoyo. I've only heard of Inigo Jones.

pigeondujour · 04/11/2017 09:32

Inigo Thomas is beautiful. I personally have only ever heard Inigo as in Jollifant.

tackytriceratops · 04/11/2017 10:43

Had to google him! Not a bad connection either.

Thanks Daisy.

bridgetreilly · 04/11/2017 10:51

Inigo Thomas is a great combination. I think the Princess Bride thing is fun, rather than a bad connection. Do it!

OrlandaFuriosa · 04/11/2017 10:55

Love Inigo. The English version of Ignatius, like Benet for Benedict, Austen for Augustine. Love Inigo Jones too. The Banqueting Hall is great.

Inigo Jacob
Inigo Daniel
Inigo Benedict
Inigo Peter
Inigo Piers
Inigo Edmund
Inigo Giles

Timothy Inigo
William Inigo
Daniel Inigo
Benedict Inigo
Giles Inigo
Guy Inigo
Nicholas Inigo
Edmund Inigo
Edward Inigo.

Did Inigo Jones have a middle name?

tackytriceratops · 04/11/2017 11:09

Thanks Bridge! I think so too!

Orlando that’s really helpful, Ive thought of quite a few of those combos too. (Not piers or Giles, sorry!) is thought of Benedict quite a bit too.

No, I googled but it seems he didn’t.

Inigo James...!

Inigo is a great name! Cool, strong and not overused! So much nicer and more interesting than Thomas (of which I know about a dozen)

But as a middle name, if Thomas has family meaning, then Inigo Thomas is a good combination.

TheVanguardSix · 04/11/2017 11:14

Inigo is a WONDERFUL name! Big fan of the name and The Man himself. Oh go for it!

Hubert as a middle name?

TheVanguardSix · 04/11/2017 11:16

OP I had DC3 at 42! Solidarity fistbump! I've not heard it used at all and even if a few kids I knew were Inigos, I'd still totally say go for it!

pipilangstrumpf · 04/11/2017 11:22

Middle names get SO rarely used that it almost doesn’t matter. I suggest a name with family meaning to your dd.

pipilangstrumpf · 04/11/2017 11:22

Sorry ds

stickygotstuck · 04/11/2017 11:32

It is a great name. We chickened out of an unusual name for DD and have regretted it ever since (and I call her by it all the time anyway Grin). At the end of the day, if he has a middle name and he doesn't like Inigo when older her can use the other one.

About the Princess Bride reference 1, it's cool and 2, most kids his age won't even know anyway.

One reservation (very personal) is that the name is actually 'íñigo'. As a Spanish speaker it really bothers me that it is mispronounced AND misspelled (wouldn't mind too much but 'n' and 'ñ' are just two totally different sounds, as different as n and m). But if you are not Spanish or living in Spain it's fine. Go for it op.

SumAndSubstance · 04/11/2017 12:05

Love Inigo. The English version of Ignatius,

Ignatius is the English version of 'Ignatius'...

OrlandaFuriosa · 04/11/2017 15:15

It is now. But it wasn’t necessarily in the 17century.

MikeUniformMike · 04/11/2017 19:46

I was going to suggest Inigo Charles.
Second name needs to start with a consonant.

MikeUniformMike · 04/11/2017 19:47

I think it means the same as Ignatius. I used to work with an Inigo and he was really nice and he was Spanish.
