Luka or Niko for a boy??

Just that really, would love to hear some opinions on these names please! Still not 100% sure about either but they are the only ones we have managed to agree on so far. Other names that I / we like are Oliver, Toma, Rafael - other suggestions very welcome!!

Niko

I love the name Luca!

I love Nikolai. Both are cool, but I think I like Niko better. I know some adult Nico’s and I think it sounds great.

I know a Niko and Luka sibling set with European parents! I think Luka is a softer name and therefore prefer it. I do like Niko though, and I may be influenced by the fact that the two Niko's I know are pretty naughty.

Nico was on our boy names list, but mostly as a potential nickname. We both love F1. Nico Hulkenberg, Nico Rosberg. Cool associations.

Would Niko be pronounced Nick-oh or Nee-koh? Either way, love it.

Luka is cool too. I really like both.

This is probably not a helpful contribution to your thread, with hindsight. On balance, I slightly prefer Niko.

I like Niko/Nico too (another F1 fan) I wanted DS2 to be Nico but it’s too similar to Stepsons name.

There are about 4 Luca/Lucas’ in DS2’s very small nursery which puts me off, although it’s a nice name.

Is Toma not a girls name?
I prefer Luka, but both are nice

Toma is definitely a boys' name where DH is from - it's a version of Thomas. I agree it sounds a bit feminine though, I think that's what puts me off it a little bit!
I'd pronounce Niko 'Nee-ko' but I'm sure that there would be a lot of scope for it being mispronounced!

I really don't like Luka/Luca. It sounds too harsh IMO- Lucas sounds nicer.

Other editors seem to be lots of Luke/Luca/lucas around at the moment. Much prefer Niko. It’s more masculine sounding and more original.

Niko. It's very cool.

Luka is also nice but it reminds me of the Suzanne Vega song. And that song is crushingly sad.

Both are great. Have met a Niko, short for Nikodem.

Toma is a boys name where my DH is from too but people opt more for Thomas or Tomas. Which is nicer, Toma sounds unfinished to me. Both Luka and Niko are lovely. I have a Lucas and a Nicolas nn Nico. I love Nikolai with Niko as the shortening. Oliver is a bit too common now but a lovely name. Rafael is nice too, I know a Rafael nn Rafa.

Sorry not Toma round here, it's Tomé, it's true Toma does sound like a girl's name.

Ooh not Nikola for a boy in Uk.

My DS was meant to be Simone which is male in Italian. I blocked that along with with Nicola and Andrea. Plenty other names!
