Irish-ish(!) boys name

Hi all,
DC 2 is due in a few weeks, we don't know the sex. We have a short list of girls names (none are Irish btw!), but are really stuck for boys names.
Ds1 has an English spelling of an Irish name. Our surname is a common Irish name (English language)
We like fairly traditional names, nothing too "out there" for small town Ireland!

Any suggestions?

Kian Kieran

Not Irish. There is no K in the Irish language, any name with a K is anglicized.

In my experience the Irish tend to give saints names due to their strong Catholic tradition. Things like Patrick, Peter, Thomas, John, Aidan, James or Seamus, etc.

Oddly enough "the Irish" are also in the 21st century, and have moved on. A very long way in fact. Hmm

@Bellamuerte we all have saints names, go to mass on a Sunday and say the rosary daily🙄 what year do you think we live in?

lorelairoryemily · 07/01/2018 21:11

Oh and op I think Rory, Cian, Sean, Conor are all lovely

CharizMa · 07/01/2018 22:11

I like Daithi too. Diarmuid is another favourite of mine but I HATE the name Dermot even though I was mad about a man called Dermot once a long time ago.

I’ve always loved the name Shay
My favourite boys name

maimeo · 09/01/2018 13:38

My boys are Finian and Liam. Finian was often accidentally called Senan or Collins!

maimeo · 09/01/2018 13:39

Not Collins (stupid autocorrect) Cillian!

SpacePenguin · 09/01/2018 13:49

Possibly missed these in pp, but just in case:

Oscar
Dónal
Fionn

Hi again,
Thanks for all the lovely suggestions! Ds2 is now 4 weeks old. He was named (eventually), but we didn't choose an Irish name in the end!
