Hi guys needing help to pick the loveliest of these baby names for my DD without having to reveal to friends and family. LOVE Posie, prob my favourite, but afraid it's too cutesy for an adult!? Isla getting quite common? Aurelia, also spelt Oraylia, worried it's a bit of a mouthful and that her name would often be shortened, pretty variations are Orla or Orleia. Help!! Which is your favourite and why? No negative comments please I love all of these choices. Thankyou :) Xx

Posie is gorgeous & I love Honor

redcaryellowcar · 16/10/2017 19:05

I love posy/ posie.

Smoliver · 16/10/2017 19:07

I love Aurelia, closely followed by Honour

LadyPug · 16/10/2017 19:09

Posy is adorable!!!

Mrsknackered · 16/10/2017 19:10

I love Honor.

I have a soft spot for Posy, but I wouldn't do it.

LongTermPerm · 16/10/2017 19:41

I'm a bit uncomfortable with bestowing the name Honor on a little girl, given it clearly comes from the honour virtue. To be honourable is clearly a good thing in general-to be truthful, altruistic etc. But when it's used for women/ girls in particular i associate it with a bit of a misogynist undertone i.e 'to defend her honour' would have associations of purity/ chastity. Neither of which are things I think we should be imposing on girls or women, or hoping for our daughters to become above all else.

Fully prepared to be told I'm talking shit. I just have a general sense of unease about it that I'm struggling to even articulate to myself.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 16/10/2017 19:47

I knew an Honor who was the most gorgeous little girl who grew up to be a really strong, confident woman. I don't think of anything but good things when I hear that name.

PeasAndHarmony · 16/10/2017 19:50

I absolutely love the name Honor, such a beautiful and strong name.

The others are far too cutesy for my taste, especially Posy.

IHopeYourCakeIsShit · 16/10/2017 19:51

Honor

DuggeeHugs · 16/10/2017 19:52

Aurelia.

Not keen on the others

villainousbroodmare · 16/10/2017 20:14

Honor is imo the best of four very different mames. Posie is awful, sickly and twee. Aurelia elegant and adult. Orla and Orlaith lovely but nothing to do with Aurelia, not that that matters. Isla very dull.

ScarletSienna · 16/10/2017 20:19

I like Posy as a nn for Josephine.
The more I’ve seen Honor written on this thread, the more I like it!

Gaggleofgirls · 16/10/2017 20:21

Well obviously my fave is Aurelia but that's because we've decided on that for this one. I'm not keen on the other spelling though.
I also love Posie and Isla, although Isla has become very common and has climbed the charts hugely which would put me off personally.

badg3r · 16/10/2017 20:39

Aurelia is ok. Honour is great. Posie is really really gawd-awful terrible. Please don't do this to a human. It is the pregnancy hormones talking, don't let them win!!

Regularsizedrudy · 16/10/2017 20:41

What about Honoria? I think it's an Irish name, meaning honour obviously. I do like Posy but don't think it will age well

MikeUniformMike · 16/10/2017 20:46

Oraylia makes me think of mouth things. And that.

Carouselfish · 16/10/2017 21:03

I like all your names OP. I like the actress Parker Posey which is what that makes me think of. Alternate sp. is Poesy too. Depends if you're going for flower bouquet or poetry in the meaning.

I'd probably pick Aurelia because Rey is a lovely nickname.

PersonAtHome · 16/10/2017 21:10

Aurelia is gorgeous, Isla is nice, Honour is too much to live up to, Posy is awful (sorry). Sounds like a shortening for Poseur. Also my nana had a small dog called Posy and she wasn't a nice dog.

KiaraS · 16/10/2017 21:53

My DD is Aurelia. So I'm biased Wink

buttercup54321 · 16/10/2017 22:15

Posie is terrible. My mother used to called bogeys posies!!
Isla is by far the best.

KiaraS · 24/10/2017 23:20

What did you decide OP?

MollyHuaCha · 25/10/2017 10:02

Aurelia or Honor

KiaraS · 25/10/2017 13:04

Enjoy your new baby xx

WhenLoveAndCakeCollide · 25/10/2017 20:33

I am a Josephine, who goes by Posy for short, and I'm in my 20's. I would have hated to have Posy as my given name though.

I use Josephine professionally, and Posy personally. I loathe all the J short forms like Jo, Joey, and especially Josie. The only other short form I like is Seph.

As for the other names, I'm bored of Isla, and I prefer the Honor spelling for a name. Aurelia is beautiful.

In order:

Posy (as a nn for Josephine or Primrose)
Aurelia
Honor
Isla

AdalindSchade · 25/10/2017 20:35

Posie- no
Isla - far too popular
Honour - ok, spelt honor
Aurelia- doesn't sound nice in English accent tbh.
Oreylia- you having a laff?
