I'm not a massive fan, think maybe it's a little boring?
I do however love Anna, Ania/Anya and Anni (I believe is Finnish and pronounced more like Arni)

FindTheLightSwitchDarren · 15/10/2017 18:57

I like it!

I prefer it as a shortening for something else; Annabel, Anita, Anastasia maybe?

But it's still nice on its own.

Backhometothenorth · 15/10/2017 19:02

Love it

wizzler · 15/10/2017 20:01

euanthesheepiloveyou · 15/10/2017 20:04

Love it. Just as it is.

dontpokethebear · 15/10/2017 20:06

I love it!
We have an Annie, but it is short for something else.

MikeUniformMike · 15/10/2017 20:06

Love it just as it is.

SnowiestMountain · 15/10/2017 20:17

Yep, love

AnyaMoondial · 15/10/2017 20:24

It's great.

bridgetreilly · 15/10/2017 20:24

Little orphan?

I think it's fine, but I don't love it.

Sophronia · 16/10/2017 00:53

Love it

DramaAlpaca · 16/10/2017 00:55

Love it, but prefer it short for something.

EssentialHummus · 16/10/2017 01:09

Short for Anthea maybe?

Tigertots · 16/10/2017 10:02

I loved-to-hate the character Annie, in an episode of Butterflies: she broke the heart of dear sweet Adam. I fondly remember wanting to enter the story, and sing the Clout song "If she doesn't come back, I'll be your substitute..." to Adam.

But I DO like the name Annie; it would be a welcome retro-Victorian "breath of fresh air" in a world of Madisons & Paiges!

Intercom · 16/10/2017 11:04

I like it.

EvilCleverDog · 16/10/2017 11:51

Best friends daughter is an Annie, but she's Tiana on her BC

RedBlackberries · 16/10/2017 12:48

I almos started this thread! I love it and seriously considering it if I have a girl. I thing it's really sweet for a little one but not to 'girly' and it sounds quite cool on an older girl/woman too.

Tinty · 16/10/2017 12:57

Noooooo (sorry), my name is Anne and I got called Annie or Anne at school. It is such a boring name, I have always hated it with a passion. There was no one else in my primary or secondary called Anne, there were a couple of Ann-maries, as much as its nice not to have every other child with the same name as yours it is not so nice if it is because your name is so dull no one else would lumber their child with a name like it.

It is such an old name that when I went to work at 16 half the middle aged women in the office where called Anne/Annie. Lots of people when I introduce myself say "oh you don't look like an Anne/Annie", because they are assumed to be middle aged women with grey curly hair!

Also all the dull side characters in books are called Anne/Annie, so the heroine is Sienna/ Charlotte/ Rose etc, and her dull frumpy friend is called Anne/Annie.

TheRollingCrone · 16/10/2017 13:01

Tiny have you not read Anne of Green Gables Grin

Tinty · 16/10/2017 14:06

TheRollingCrone Yes I have read Anne of Green Gables and she was awesome, you are right Smile, but I obviously have a hang up about my name (I have no middle name to use either, thanks parents!).

I used to spend quite a lot of time thinking of different names to change mine too when I was a child and I never have grown into my name yet! Maybe when I am really old I will like it.

anniebambammie · 16/10/2017 14:17

Love it Wink

Stringofpearls · 16/10/2017 14:21

I think it's a beautiful, simple and classic name.

Tigertots · 16/10/2017 14:22

Tinty, would you, like Anne of Green Gables, rather be called Cordelia?

I'm interested: which are the books featuring boring sidekicks named Anne/Annie?
