To rhyme with 'foreign'?
Or with a longer vowel sound, so like the 'Taur' in 'Taurus'?

I'd say a short Tor like in foreign.

Torin is sounded like foreign and i prefer it.

Tourin to me sounds like ‘touring’ but said lazily with the the ‘g’ left off.

Also to rhyme with foreign

Dont know how much you want the ‘i’ to sound but Toren also looks nice.

I would've instinctively said it like tourin', but now that I've read this thread, it does sound better when rhyming with foreign.

The "þ" that it's spelt with makes the "th" sound...but you don't really hear it in Þorin

Instinctively, I'd pronounce Torin as TORR-in. (To rhyme with 'florin')

If it had been spelled 'Toren', with an 'e', I'd pronounce it to rhyme with 'foreign'.

But not 'TAUR-in'. Though in another accent, I can see why it would sound more like that.

I know a baby one, his name is pronounced 'Torrin'. Which doesn't rhyme with foreign to me but I guess there might be an alternative pronunciation.

I do pronounce it how I like, Pinky. I was curious how YOU would pronounce it! With an Irish accent it can sometimes sound more like the Taurus sound with a long 'O', rather than a shorter 'O' sound. He gets both amongst my friends & family & I let them call him whatever they like! Ridiculed, Sally?! I'm always a bit baffled when people say this. I'm a teacher & have never once seen or heard of anyone being ridiculed for their name. Not once. And I've taught some very interestingly named children. And I teach teenagers so it's not like it wouldn't occur to them...
Plus - it's not like he's called Flip Flop or Pineapple. Torin is an Irish name meaning Chief. Which is pretty cool imho. But yeah...whatevs. 😉

Thanks. It must definitely depend on your accent then because in my accent, Forrin & Foreign sound the same.

forrin = foh-rin (as in "tin")
foreign = the last syllable is something between "ren" and "run", not an "i" sound

The start of Taurus and foreign sound the same in my accent.
