Change of mind and actually think these are the final 2...

Georgia is a lovely name. I really like it.

MumOfTwoMasterOfNone · 15/10/2017 13:16

Ava. DD was very nearly Georgia until I heard someone shout it across a supermarket. Sent a shiver down my spine and I swiftly changed my mind!

Carolinacarolina · 15/10/2017 13:22

I'm a teacher too Skate not only would I disagree I wouldn't make assumptions on a child's ability based on their name 🤔

pinkblink · 15/10/2017 13:25

I think Georgina sounds prettier than Georgia personally

physicskate · 15/10/2017 14:22

Woah calm down! Perhaps I shouldn't use my phone to post as I have fat fingers...

I have never ever, nor would I, assume anything about a child's behaviour/ ability based on his or her name. And I didn't in my post either. I was just musing that the 5 Georgia's I have had the pleasure (and genuinely, two of them have been an absolute pleasure, three of the Georgia's I have taught I didn't get to know as well, even if all 5 were complete handfuls and tricky characters, which they were - each of them happened to have a similar outlook on the amount of effort they should be putting in compared to the amount of effort I put in. The Georgia that I currently teach said to me the other day in a rather off-hand way: 'Miss I genuinely wish you would teach us something,' despite the fact that is what I slog my guts out to do!) to teach have had similar characteristics/ personalities/ attributes.

It was merely an offhand observation that I hadn't realised until this thread came along... not a judgement. Any future Georgias will not be treated any differently because of her name (as none of the Georgias I have taught have been treated any differently either).

I am sure that, as a teacher, you have similar names that bring back (fond -and perhaps not so fond-) memories.

Carolinacarolina · 15/10/2017 17:09

Go back read what you initially wrote Kate you've completely contradicted yourself 🤔

Marcipex · 15/10/2017 17:14

I'd vote for Georgia, but the name I really like is Georgie.

physicskate · 15/10/2017 18:10

No I haven't contradicted myself, just elaborated. Perhaps the limitations of written communication are somewhat at play?

Just because the 5 Georgia's I've taught have been very gobby and thought more highly of their academic 'abilities' doesn't mean anything about any other Georgias out there. That also doesn't mean that two of them were not pupils that I reflect fondly upon nostalgically. Just because a kid caused me a headache doesn't mean I didn't have a good working relationship with her (eventually after years of pulling my hair out trying to get this child to learn/ be able to access the curriculum). Maybe I am unique in this... being able to assess people or make note of their qualities without it affecting how I feel about them?

I now recall a 20 (!!!) minute conversation with one of the Georgias about the meaning of 'sag' (as in droop) with reference to cantilevers and hooke's law. The most painful conversation of my life... bless her. A colleague overheard the conversation and brought me a cup of tea to recover from the ... erm... willful lack of understanding.... of what saggy or sag meant.

But that's by the by. It was just an offhand comment about the Georgias that I have experienced. No need to jump down my throat and question my abilities as a teacher...

Carolinacarolina · 15/10/2017 19:35

No you've missed the point entirely there honestly go back and read your first post dear...

NameChange30 · 15/10/2017 19:46

Stop derailing the thread, seriously, no one else cares

It's a baby names thread, take the bun fight elsewhere

Carolinacarolina · 15/10/2017 19:57

Completely agree it should be about whether you like a name not making generalised points on what a Georgia or Ava might be like based on a few random children someone has taught in the past.
Anyway...both lovely names but I do like Georgia best op

nodogsinthebedroom · 15/10/2017 20:01

Lol at the derailing Grin

Op I see you've added Alice to list. Great name. IMHO even nicer than Ava.

Guardup · 15/10/2017 20:06

I love Ava and Georgia, but Ava is definitely a beautiful name so would be my choice.

Maybe you could consider Ida or Ada as well if you like Ava?

Bubble04 · 15/10/2017 20:15

Definitely Georgia. Lovely name

DoGoOn · 15/10/2017 21:29

Both nice but Georgia for me too as first choice 👍 Congratulations op

Allthecake · 15/10/2017 21:41

Never been a fan of Georgia I’m afraid but love Ava and Alice. A lot of people have commented there are loads of Avas/Evas/Evies/Eves but these are all different names so not really a problem?

Linkedinrequest · 15/10/2017 21:55

Love Georgia very nice name
