Hi all. I’m expecting a girl and my top two favourite names are Anya and Sienna. Sister is Sofia. Which do you prefer?
Thank you!

Anya is lovely.

TheDowagerCuntess · 13/10/2017 18:07

Anya is quite popular now. I don't think you will get too many people struggling with it.

MeMeMeMe123 · 13/10/2017 18:10

Aine is an irish name pronounced Anya or On-ya....might that work?

FindTheLightSwitchDarren · 13/10/2017 19:41

Anya

Lozmatoz · 13/10/2017 21:23

Anya - much more classy.

PrincessAnnaOfArundale · 13/10/2017 21:28

Anya although I prefer Anna. Sienna seems a little dated now like it had its day about 10 years ago and now just sounds a bit naff (in my
Opinion anyway!)

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 13/10/2017 21:42

Sofia and Anya, beautiful ! ❤️

DramaAlpaca · 13/10/2017 21:55

Aine is an irish name pronounced Anya or On-ya

Nope, it really isn't pronounced either of those ways. The nearest I can get to writing the pronunciation of Áine is AWN-ya. Definitely not either Anya or Onya.

OP, I love Anya & think it would go very well with Sofia. I like Sienna too, but Anya would be a better choice.

daisypond · 14/10/2017 10:51

Anya. I'm not keen on Sienna. If it's the city, it should be Siena, so that bugs me.

MadameJosephine · 14/10/2017 10:53

Definitely Anya, much nicer and less common than Sienna

KoalaD · 14/10/2017 10:55

Anya.

I find Sienna a bit trendy/tacky.

Mollie85 · 14/10/2017 11:14

Siena if spelt like the city

Anya. It's pretty , easy to spell and pronounce and very international.

VapersNest · 14/10/2017 11:47

Anya is lovely.

PandorasXbox · 14/10/2017 14:37

Anya sounds harsh to me. Anna is better.

Liadain · 14/10/2017 14:42

Aine is definitely not pronounced as Anya! Awn-ya, as a pp said.

Anyway OP I would go for Anya.

theancientmarinader · 14/10/2017 14:51

I have a teenage Anya. People always use the Irish pronunciation and we have had people spelling it with a j. We went for the anglicized version as we thought it would reduce confusion. People can pretty much mispronounce and misspell any name at all lol. That said, I only know two others, one older, one younger.

MeMeMeMe123 · 14/10/2017 15:07

Eh?

My cousin name is Aine and it's pronounced called Anya.

Are you forgetting that accents read differently on screen? Depending on where you are from AWN and ON can be pronounced very similarly.

MeMeMeMe123 · 14/10/2017 15:08

sorry pronounced. Not pronounced called!

Liadain · 14/10/2017 15:23

I think that if you polled Irish people, the vast majority will pronounce Aine something similar to Awn-ya. If you know someone pronouncing it as Anya, fine, but that's not the standard and not the name OP is looking for.

PrincessPlod · 14/10/2017 15:31

Anya

TheDowagerCuntess · 14/10/2017 19:53

I'm not keen on Sienna. If it's the city, it should be Siena, so that bugs me.

I don't think people who use it, are naming heir child after the city, for the most part.

Sienna the name just happens to be similar to Siena the city. But one's a girls' name and has two Ns. The other's the name of a city in Italy.

Anyway, sienna the colour is spelt with two Ns.

sunshine555 · 15/10/2017 18:26

Thank you all!
Anya it will be. Now just to find a middle name..... Grin
