Elisabetta Wren? Thoughts please!

Still mulling over names with one week to go..! I think I'm loving this (though may change my mind in the morning). It has the Italian connection and DP's grandmother was Elizabeth. Was thinking Etta or Betty for nn.
Honest thoughts please x

Love it!!

MissAlabamaWhitman · 12/10/2017 23:17

Elisabetta, yes.

Wren, definitely no.

PressPaws · 12/10/2017 23:19

I love it.

Insomnibrat · 12/10/2017 23:20

I love it, I love the name Wren for a girl.

Very olde English, very Bronte.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 12/10/2017 23:21

I don't like it sorry, but it is a beautiful name, so. If you want to use it, please don't ruin with something trashy like Wren.

SinglePringle · 12/10/2017 23:57

They are both beautiful names. Gorgeous. I’m just not feeling them together.

I adore Wren. Classic, timeless, elegant and unusual without being tricky.

Dustbunny1900 · 13/10/2017 00:05

Wren is beautiful olde name yet short, sweet and confident. Love it

Elisabetta is a prettier and fresher take on Elizabeth.
So yea I think you picked a great name

annandale · 13/10/2017 00:15

I don't particularly like Elisabetta but it's not me that's going to use it! I think Elizabeth Wren is a lot better personally.

Buntysoven · 13/10/2017 00:24

I honestly think these names together are swoon worthy 😍

Pemba · 13/10/2017 04:13

Elisabetta is nice. I think Italians would use Lisa or Isabetta for short.

Don't like Wren much, don't get the sudden popularity. I had never heard of it until a couple of years ago, and then only on Mumsnet. The sound - 'ren' - is meh. The bird is a small drab looking creature, isn't it? Still as a middle name it's inoffensive.

ifigoup · 13/10/2017 04:21

I think both names, and the combination, are really pretty.

Elisabetta also sounds like a SERIOUS name, and I mean that in a good way.

Slightlydizzydaily · 13/10/2017 04:25

I don't like them together sorry

I think Wren Elizabeth is lovely
Or Elisabetta Sophie
Elisabetta Anna
Or Elizabeth Wren

Being completely honest I prefer Elizabeth to Elisabetta, but I do think Elisabetta is a beautiful name

elfinpre · 13/10/2017 04:45

It's lovely. I wish I'd heard of the name Wren. My grandad used to call my grandma "Jenny Wren".

KoalaD · 13/10/2017 05:00

Elisabetta is lovely.

I really don't like Wren. Not a pretty sound, or look. I just don't get it.

SuperBeagle · 13/10/2017 05:24

Don't like Elisabetta.

Elizabeth Wren is much nicer.

greendale17 · 13/10/2017 05:39

Elisabetta is too much of a mouthful to say and sounds quite pretentious

Wren sounds like a surname

PerfumeIsAMessage · 13/10/2017 06:09

Italians would use Betta as a short form. It's a very old fashioned name, I've only ever taught one and she was named after a grandmother too, as is very common here.
It doesn't go with Wren (quirky, new agey, sounds modern American influenced)

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 13/10/2017 09:23

I love Etta Wren, it's beautiful.
I don't like Elisabetta, or Betty names, sorry.

Jooni · 13/10/2017 11:59

It's nice. Elisabetta is quite frilly but also sounds serious enough I think, plus lots of lovely nickname options. I really like Wren; not sure they fit terribly well together as they're pretty much opposite ends of the girls' name spectrum to me (frilly, traditional, romantic, exotic vs short, trendy, androgynous, modern) but the sound and flow is nice.

averythinline · 13/10/2017 12:06

I like it - think I slightly prefer Elizabeth Wren
but like Betty as a nn so other spelling also good... in my head a bit more betty boop than old lady (which is a good thing )
would make a change from all the 'el/ellie names' have also known a few Beths and they have all been lovely - also know couple of Elizabeths with no nn so it can be done!

Shockers · 13/10/2017 12:08

I love wrens. I'd say tiny, characterful and delicate, rather than small and drab.

I'm honestly not sure about Elizabetta... it should be nice, but it sounds like the name of a 19th century housemaid in a novel.

Firsttime27 · 13/10/2017 12:51

Thank you everyone! I would probably go with Ettie or Etta! I see what some people mean about Wren..but like the flow of the R sound!
Elisabetta Rose? Is it too frilly??

OP posts:
Pemba · 13/10/2017 13:07

Rose is nice, I wouldn't say it's frilly, but there are certainly a lot of girls with Rose as a middle name. If that bothers you and you want something with an 'R' sound, there's Ruth? Rachel?

Slightlydizzydaily · 13/10/2017 13:28

I think it's the r sounds after the a ending that make it not work - it all runs together into one word elizabetterose or elisabettaren when you say it! Being honest I think another start sound would be much better. Eg:

Elizabeth Rose is beautiful
Or Elisabetta Camille

Slightlydizzydaily · 13/10/2017 13:29

I also agree with Jooni about Elisabetta and Wren not being at all from the same camps. I think something continental and feminine is best after Elisabetta
