Not Margaret...would be Maggie.
Immediate thought...Simpsons right??
Don't think I'm sold, neither is dh but we have nothing so anything goes right now.
What you all think?

I think it's all relative ...... when I saw your thread title, the first Maggie I thought of is the adorable 2 year-old daughter of a friend-of-a-friend.
Yes, I remember Mrs Thatcher, and have heard of the Simpsons ..... but that's not my first thought.

So, if you like Maggie, sometime soon your Maggie will be the first person everyone you know thinks of when they hear the name.

Maggie is one of the top 2 names we have for our LO so I obviously love it Smile

I have had good feedback from everyone I've asked but I'm still on the fence because there's another name I love slightly more!

magbob · 10/10/2017 19:01

I have a Maggie, have never regretted the choice. She gets irritated that people, when first meeting her, assume she is called Maddie. Maggie is a different name, yet familiar.

Hellywelly10 · 10/10/2017 19:07

As a person who leans to the left politically and is over 40 I hate it.

NotAgainYoda · 10/10/2017 19:08

I just don't associate it with Margaret Thatcher

People only referred to her as Maggie to humanise and soften her. It failed, IMO

I see Maggie as rather a cool, strong name

BlackPepperCrab · 10/10/2017 19:11

I am personally not a fan simply because it reminds me too much of Maggi-Würze.

Nestlyn · 10/10/2017 19:28

Lovely.

earlybirdhasanap · 10/10/2017 20:30

Maggie was our number one choice until someone pointed out it was like Thatcher. That put a swift end to that.

xflipflopx · 10/10/2017 20:55

I do really like it and I didn't even think about Thatcher so I wouldn't necessarily link it to her.
Like someone said as soon as my baby would be Maggie there would be a new association to the name for everyone else.

Really dislike it. I know several over 80. It sounds hard/harsh.

pipilangstrumpf · 11/10/2017 09:15

Yes, Maggi Würze

Also Maggie doesn’t translate well into other languages (which may or may not bother you)

KERALA1 · 11/10/2017 20:33

Love it. Cool, classic but underused. Jackpot.

blisterinthesun · 11/10/2017 22:03

I know a little Maggie. It’s a wonderful name. Was on my list for DC2 who turned out to be a DS Grin

Carouselfish · 11/10/2017 23:41

I like it. In the 2000s there were about 100 American movies with the little girl character called Maggie. It just seemed to be the go to name for cute and wholesome.
I think it translates to teens too.

JeanLouiseFinch · 11/10/2017 23:49

The one I know is rather unpleasant, so no.

Hatstand · 12/10/2017 10:34

Thatcher. Though it might depend where you live. It's a lovely name otherwise.

xflipflopx · 12/10/2017 13:08

@hatstand I'm in the uk but not quite 30 yet so Thatcher didn't play much of a part in my life. No contact with my parents so don't have their opinions on the name and what impact she had to them.
I have no idea who Maggi Wurze is Confused either

I really like it.

Hatstand · 12/10/2017 15:20

I'm early 30s but grew up in the north of England and older family members had and still have very strong opinions! It would definitely have been on my list for DD otherwise.
