Help deciding baby girl's name!

Expecting our DC3, a girl, in Jan and can't decide on a name. Keep coming back to either Rose or Robyn. Both go well with surname.

I've always loved Rose, as I think it's uncommon as a first name and such a feminine, classic, yet not too frilly/girly a name and I think it ages well. And it fits better with our other DCs' names. But I strongly dislike Rosie as I think it's a very different type of name, and DH thinks it's inevitable that family members will give her Rosie as a NN. This is putting me off a fair bit.

I also love Robyn, and this is DH's preference, as he thinks it has more about it and there's more potential for nicknames such as Bobby, which he loves.

I think it's lovely too especially for a winter baby but I keep thinking as a grown woman I'd rather be a Rose than a Robyn, so would my daughter? I feel like Rose is more classic and less likely to date. But then there is something really sweet and warm about Robyn.

We've still got a bit of time to decide but I'm one of those people that likes to decide things well in advance! What are people's thoughts? Will Rose get called Rosie? Which name between Robyn and Rose do you prefer on a grown woman? Which would you choose? Would appreciate your comments, many thanks!

My dd aged 12 is Rose, always has been Rose, never Rosie.

Robyn Rose.

Bobbie is such a cute nickname for a girl. Start calling her that and the family/friends will follow.

Both lovely names

I prefer Robyn by a smidgen

I wouldn't let the fear of Rosie or Rob influence your decision

I do still really love Robyn too, I think it's really warm. I don't get the same warm feeling with Rose, but I just think Rose is so elegant and beautiful. Arrrgh this is hard! I'm so indecisive anyway so choosing a name is a nightmare for me! I hate leaving it until the delivery as I can never think straight after the birth. DH is happy to go either way but I know he much prefers Robyn. I'm not keen to use Rose as a middle either as I think it's very overdone Confused

I much prefer Robyn. Love the nickname Bobby. I'm not keen on one-syllable names generally and don't really like Rose.

iamdivergent · 08/10/2017 22:13

I like both. Haven't met any baby Robyn's since d's was born last year but have met 4 Rose's, and 2 Rosie's. I'm in AS Scotland.

Prefer Rose. I do think it's warm and the one I know is just Rose, not Rosie. It's a classic name and I think your point about preferring to be a grownup woman called Rose is a good one. Also, like you, I feel it's only been overdone as a middle name, not as a first name.

Thanks handonhip, really helpful comments, good to know you think it's a warm sounding name. And thanks for all other comments so far Smile

I much prefer Robyn. I don't dislike Rose, but it seems like a bit of a plain name, whereas Robyn has more personality.

ReginaBlitzkreig · 09/10/2017 15:31

Robyn, Robyn, Robyn! It is warm, but also cool, if you see what I mean.

The nickname thing doesn't inevitably happen. My name is long, with several appalling nickname choices. I've never been called by any of them. The same seems to go for all my cousins.

p.s. Robyn.

Elmo303 · 09/10/2017 15:44

I keep looking at celebs thinking which would suit them best as a gauge. Watching Strictly last night I thought both Claudia and Tess would seem more elegant with Rose but that Robyn was a bit more sassy and had a bit more about it. I know these are huge generalisations on the names, I'm very split down the middle here. Tricky tricky...Confused
