Help! Really struggling with DS2 name.
DS1 name begins with J (we both loved it long before knowing we were having a boy) so would prefer to avoid J-names.

I have scoured the baby name stats for years and still have yet to find one I love. Nothing too trendy and willing to re-consider 'classics'. It can't be an adjective due to our surname!

Currently on the shortlist:
Arthur (which I love but DH has nixed)
Lysander - not sure it feels 'natural' to me to say it
Auberon
Albion
Ezra - bit hipster?
Stellan
Adriel
Etienne - would feel a bit poncey as neither of us are French
Ptolemy - always thought this was a great name but am shying away from actually using it
Orion - too hippyish with our surname
We think the default would probably be Alexander. I do really like the name but it's fairly common and we have a couple of friends called Alex.

Only like Ezra or Orion from your list. Some of the rest don't even sound like names

NotAgainYoda · 01/10/2017 10:35

They are all fairly poncey, to be honest

Ilike Ezra

What about:

Raphael
Malachy
Levi
Evan
Marcus

I'm a bit confused because you say nothing too trendy, but everything on your list is extremely contemporary Stoke Newington, except for possibly Arthur which may have become more mainstream. By trendy do you mean popular with a broad cross-section of the population rather than fashionable now and likely to be only heard in hipster cafes?

I think some of the suggestions like Raphael, Rufus, Felix and Julius are good. I'm also quite keen on Rex and Marius. Maybe Otto.

How about:

How about...
Zac
Luca
Jowan (it's Cornish)
Hayden (I love this name but it might be too close to the Kaden/Jaden brigade)

I meant trendy like Oliver, Jack, Milo, Arlo etc. All perfectly nice, maybe I meant popular not trendy. I'm not from London so don't really know what's seen as poncey or not... and I recognise quite a few of these are a bit poncey, which is why I'm not sold on them but wanted to give a flavour of what sort of thing I like!
A lot of suggestions either my friends have used (like Rex) or have too many associations from TV (like Otto the bus driver even though I think it's a great name)....!

Although Ezra I thought was more on the biblical-sounding side, or could be one of those midly irritating singer-songwriters you have now who wear a little hat. Apart from that I think it's a great name (good combination of letters)

Isambard is a brilliant name but we live in Bristol so possibly a bit on the nose.
I like Theo too but DS's cousin is called that and it's been "him" for ages.

Enjoying all these suggestions though - thanks! Love that we've had both Watson and Sherlock. (Don't think we'll be using them though)
