Leila Smile

NinonDeLenclos · 28/09/2017 19:36

Def downmarket.

Leila is better. (Don't like either tbh).

Pemba · 28/09/2017 19:51

I quite like it, but I much prefer the Leila spelling as it seems more authentic. Also letter 'y's in the middle of names somehow don't look that pleasing written down.

MikeUniformMike · 28/09/2017 19:52

Prefer Leila

Ankleswingers · 28/09/2017 19:55

I know a little Layla.

Lovely child.

I like it Smile

LittleBirdBlues · 28/09/2017 19:58

What does downmarket mean when it comes to names?!

I love layla. Or leyla. Or leila. Smile

My dh is also form a culture where it means night, it was on our list when we had our DD! Perhaps one for number 3 Wink

BewareOfDragons · 28/09/2017 20:02

It's pretty but quite popular again around her. I know several Laylas and Lailas, as well as quite a few Lylas, Lilahs and Lilys.

igotyoubabe · 28/09/2017 21:29

Chavvy.. especially said in my regional accent!

CariadzDarling · 28/09/2017 21:31

Its Laila.

derenstar · 28/09/2017 21:35

Love it too but definitely better spelt Leila. I might be a bit biased though as I have one!

Funny how some people are quick to label any name not typical middle class and white sounding ‘chavy’ or ‘common’ Hmm

Pemba · 28/09/2017 21:45

Yes, to me a 'chavvy' name would be something like Baylee, Something-Blu, or Something-Beau (especially for a girl). Inappropriate for the gender maybe, and full of 'unique' spellings and hyphens.

Just because a perfectly normal name like Leila/Layla has also been liked by people from lower socio/economic groups (shock horror!) shouldn't put you off.

CariadzDarling · 28/09/2017 21:53

Arabic speaking family here. We write the English version as Laila.

sodorjmum · 28/09/2017 21:55

I like it

CariadzDarling · 28/09/2017 21:55

OP, what do you think of Layale. Its pronounced Lay Ali

hayleyfx · 28/09/2017 21:58

I think it's a lovely name, very pretty and if you like it then go for it Smile

igotyoubabe · 28/09/2017 22:00

Who said Layla wasn't 'white sounding'? Just the connotations of the name where I live. Same as a name like Monty being a snobby posh name. Also it doesn't help that the 2 Layla's I know have chavvy parents. And I'm by no means middle class or 'well off', but we all know a chav when we see one! Chill though guys! Opinions aren't fact!

ILoveDolly · 28/09/2017 22:01

I can assure you it is not "downmarket". People have such funny ideas Hmm

ChimpyChops · 28/09/2017 22:04

Absolutely love it. Off our list as I have a ex called Layla. Named after the Clapton song.
Gorgeous name.

CariadzDarling · 28/09/2017 22:11

This downmarket business is very strange. Here in the ME its one of the very special names.

Mclaren37 · 29/09/2017 05:36

Really dislike. It sounds a bit wet and insubstantial to me, like Lara or Linda. Similarly seems quite dated. I did go to school with rather an unfortunate Layla though, so I'm certainly biased. Even Clapton can't improve it for me I'm afraid.

Lily2007 · 29/09/2017 10:40

Love the name.

kaytee87 · 29/09/2017 16:01

I prefer the spelling Leila

sandgrown · 30/09/2017 06:27

Leila/Leyla/Laila is a very popular name in ME countries and nothing to do with the song.

Only1scoop · 30/09/2017 06:38

'You got me on my knees'Smile
