Is this opening him up to teasing...?

Baby is due mid December. Not sure if it's a boy or girl yet but we love the name Rudy for a boy. I can't help worrying though that as it's so close to xmas he's inevitably get teased about the Rudolph connection. I wouldn't even think about it if baby wasn't due at xmas, but I worry! Is it mean? Do you think he would get teased badly?

No it's lovely, I just to sing, A message to you Rudy Wink

Millipedewithherfeetup · 25/09/2017 21:28

Sorry but yes.

MistyMinge · 25/09/2017 21:30

I love it. To be honest kids will always find something to tease other kids about. I think it could be a talking point, in a good way.

Pooshweens · 25/09/2017 21:33

My DH wants to have this name for our boy due in a couple of weeks

I hasn't made the Rudolph connection. For me it just sounds incredibly Germanic!

minipie · 25/09/2017 21:33

I think teasing based on his name sounding "rude" is more likely.

NuffSaidSam · 25/09/2017 21:34

I know a few Rudy's and have never known them to be teased about their name.

I think if he is teased, which is a possibility because kids will pick on anything, it's more likely to be because of the 'rude' bit rather than Rudolph.

milkysmum · 25/09/2017 21:34

I hadn't thought of the Rudolph connection but the phrase "don't be such a rudy" comes to my mind. Sorry i do think he would be teased with this name.

MajesticWhine · 25/09/2017 21:37

I would not have thought of the Rudolph connection, so no.

seventeenlittleducks · 25/09/2017 21:40

I didn't make the Rudolph connection however it did make me think of the annoying character on misfits Confused that being said it's not an awful name op Smile

Prictoriafeckam · 25/09/2017 21:40

Rudyard, shortened to Rudy. An exceedingly fine name

Constantlurker · 25/09/2017 21:43

Thanks everyone. It's so tricky! It may have come about after some spectacularly bad pregnant dancing in the kitchen to the specials. Now I can't get it out of my head! Poor kid would have to endure me relentlessly singing 'stop your messing around'...

It reminds me of Smithy's sister on Gavin and Stacy. But a nice name though.

Racheyg · 25/09/2017 21:47

If I had my way and we had a third and a boy I would have Rudy

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 25/09/2017 22:30

Can imagine this Rudy didn't stand for any teasing about his name for whatever reason!

Rudy is a great name, OP.

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 25/09/2017 22:32

^ Oh, I only just noticed he was in fact named "Rodolfo", so not a "Rudy" officially!

As you were...

Mrsknackered · 25/09/2017 22:40

I love Rudy. Would have used it but have a cousin Rudy and all ofDP's cats were called it.

There's a 10 month old Rudy in my youngest DS's nursery. He's too young for teasing but he's so gorgeous. I think it's quite easy to pick on any name if you really wanted.

MollyHuaCha · 25/09/2017 22:43

The Rudolph connection had not occurred to me either. Rudy is great - go for it!

pipilangstrumpf · 25/09/2017 23:14

Rudi or Rudy are nicknames for Rudolph. Or Rudyard?

But, as others have said, I think the ‘rude’y part is more teasable.

FreshHorizons · 25/09/2017 23:20

If you are asking the question it is because the answer is probably 'yes'. He may be fine with it- unfortunately you can't tell whether he will have the personally to carry it off ,so I would avoid.

FreshHorizons · 25/09/2017 23:21

I can't see Rudolph being much of a problem- more the 'rude' part.

Heratnumber7 · 25/09/2017 23:31

Is t it usually Rudi not Rudy?

I'd be more concerned his nickname might be Ruby!!

SingingMySong · 25/09/2017 23:32

"Rude" would be my issue with it

scrulytrumptious · 25/09/2017 23:46

We have a Rudy in our family. He is 13 now and as far as I'm aware he's never been teased about his name, even at his all boys school. To be fair, he is confident and outgoing and would be more than capable of dealing with smart remarks about his name. From birth he has been called Rudy, Rude boy and Rooster. I love it.

bridgetreilly · 26/09/2017 09:23

I think it's an awful name, personally, but not because he might get teased.

pipilangstrumpf · 26/09/2017 09:24

I don’t like it either
