We live in London, but we are from Ireland.

Bridget, unless you want her to spend her days explaining that her name isn't pronounced brig-hid to rhyme with wig-lid or pig-did

ShizzleYoDrizzle · 25/09/2017 21:05

Bridget

FloatingCamel · 25/09/2017 21:07

Woke the baby laughing at wig-lid and pig-did

Liadain · 25/09/2017 21:07

I'd be more inclined to go with Brigid than Brighid. No particular preference between Bridget and Brigid personally.

HmmmHashtag · 25/09/2017 21:10

Brigid

Sophronia · 25/09/2017 21:10

Bridget. I can imagine some people thinking Brighid rhymes with frigid.

Ttbb · 25/09/2017 21:47

I find Brighid lovely but that might just be because Brighida was a name I heard a lot growing up and I always liked it. Bridget just makes me think of boring, extremely white (English or fourth generation Australian or something), middle middle class people. Basically Bridget jones-every Bridget I have ever known has been a variation on that theme.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 25/09/2017 22:17

Bridget, lovely !

bigbluedustbin · 25/09/2017 22:28

Bridget. I really like it.

DramaAlpaca · 25/09/2017 22:30

If in the UK, spelling it Bridget will make everyone's lives easier.

Brigid is lovely though, nicer than Brighid.

Pamplemousse17 · 26/09/2017 02:18

Bridget, the name of my maternal GGM and GM (of Irish descent) - power, strength and virtue. I regret not using this in my DD's name and, in hindsight, it definitely ought to have featured

Jooni · 26/09/2017 04:41

Love both, but Bridget will definitely be easier for her.

17caterpillars1mouse · 26/09/2017 08:04

I like both. Helpful I know.

I want to 6th form with a Brigid and nobody had any issues saying it.
It has a slighted softer sound than Bridget but I do like Bridget too

daisypond · 26/09/2017 08:32

I think Brighid or Brigid are nicer spellings than Bridget. I'm not sure how differently they are pronounced, if at all different.

villainousbroodmare · 26/09/2017 13:10

I'm an Irish speaker and I'd be inclined to pronounce Brighid as Bríd ("breed"). If you want the anglicised two-syllable pronunciation, I'd leave out the h.

Brigid is marginally nicer. If you have to. I can assure you that people will definitely notice it rhymes with frigid, rhymes with midget, talk about her assets compared with those of Bardot, and that's without bloody Bridget Jones. You might be able to guess my name.
