Hello, strongly considering this as a name but unsure of which spelling would be better - Effie or Effy? Xx

People that you meet face to face in real life will not tell you they dislike the name Effie.
Unlike strangers on the internet.

Realowlette · 20/09/2017 18:07

Effie is a gorgeous name! I'm very bias as we have an Evelyn but she's called Effie by everyone. Doesn't conjure up a 'maid' to me - just a funny, gorgeous, messy little girl!Smile

Yourshakraishangingout · 20/09/2017 18:11

Same here Realowlette :)

Yourshakraishangingout · 20/09/2017 18:17

Also Pandora OP asked for spelling opinion not whether you like the name or not

PandorasXbox · 20/09/2017 18:22

Unfortunately Baby Names on MN doesn't work like that Yourshakraishangingout.

I like Effie (and that's the only spelling I've seen before, and would prefer I think). I've known two - one was short for Effua (nice, but perhaps a bit odd to use if it's not your heritage), the other I actually don't know whether it was a short or her full name - she was German but that may not mean anything!

Yourshakraishangingout · 20/09/2017 18:31

Shame really.

MrsCaecilius · 20/09/2017 18:40

The Effie I know is a cat. It's short for 'that effing cat'.

Not helpful, sorry, love it as a NN!

PandaCat · 20/09/2017 19:24

Effie

Sugarformyhoney · 20/09/2017 19:37

LOve it and prefer Effie as the spelling. Don't make it short for some bizarre name that no one under 157 has heard 😂Mumsnet can be so odd.
I know an Elfie too 😍

Sophronia · 20/09/2017 22:05

Effie as a nickname

Effie

It's more like a muffled swear word than a name. Sorry, it really has no personality whatsoever imo. Obviously it will take on your child's own personality for you.

FartnissEverbeans · 29/09/2017 18:43

I don't think anything is 'usually' a nickname for Euphemia since that's a hideous name that is justifiably never used by anyone. Girls named Euphemia probably nickname themselves Jane or Susan.

Effie is cute. I know an Ophelia who goes by Effie. Would also work for Elizabeth
