Thoughts on Tor please (for a boy)? Not short for anything, just as is.

Didn't know about the dark web thing, something to think about thanks

I'd think you'd left the h out of Thor.

holdthewine · 19/09/2017 20:58

Or he was conceived at Glastonbury?

I assumed it was a girl (short for Victoria) when I read the thread title.

elQuintoConyo · 19/09/2017 21:12

Tor? The god of tunder?

Sorry, silly Big Bang Theory reference!

Highpeak · 19/09/2017 21:36

I know a Tor who has one Norwegian parent.

GladysKnight · 19/09/2017 21:44

I know one - his name has always seemed to 'work' to me (known him from childhood, adult now). Don't know him well enough to know if he's ever had issues, but no reason to think he has. I like it.

Floellabella · 20/09/2017 03:53

It's nice, Scandinavian feel.

AlphaStation · 20/09/2017 04:28

It not only has a Scandinavian feel, it is Scandinavian, but I don't think it's so common these days. As long as you don't name the baby Tord not an unusual Scandinavian name but may be quite unfortunate if spelled wrong.

Norse God of thunder âš¡ just don't make him cross! Would you prefer Thor? Only to save you correcting people's spelling constantly. You might also like Casimir means destroyer of peace.

gummibaers · 20/09/2017 08:54

I know a Tor, early forties. His parents may be Scandinavian. Lovely name.

I'm less keen on Thor (unless you pronounce it like Tor).

AutoFillUsername · 20/09/2017 08:58

I know a boy conceived on Dartmoor called Tor. He has brothers called Devon and Dart (the Dart is the river that runs through Dartmoor).

Weirdly I love all these names even though my own kids have common traditional royal names.

Jooni · 20/09/2017 09:28

Thanks all. No, not at all keen on Thor weirdly!

I quite like it. It sounds strong and masculine. And is easy to spell and pronounce. What's not to like?

blahdyblahblah · 20/09/2017 12:34

Love it!!!!

badtime · 20/09/2017 17:01

I like it.

Yogagirl123 · 20/09/2017 17:06

Tor, a lovely name, very Swedish is origin.

blahdyblahblah · 20/09/2017 17:07

Yogagirl are you sure you aren't 'yodagirl'? Grin

MissBabbs · 20/09/2017 17:19

Torr means a bare rocky hilltop in Celtic, I think it is, so quite a nice name. Think I'd put two rrs as one looks unfinished to me, me being used to Torr.

NinonDeLenclos · 20/09/2017 17:27

Much prefer Thor, but it comes to the same thing.

NinonDeLenclos · 20/09/2017 17:28

(PS ex half-Norwegian bf had a cat called Tor who was bonkers)

mummyG2C · 20/09/2017 17:28

My BIL is Norwegian and Tor is quite common in Norway but is spelt Thor, it's actually how the Norwegians say Thor if that makes sense! My sister and hubby considered for their last (ended up being a girl) but they also like Mads, Stellan and a few other Norwegian names if you like the style!

Jooni · 20/09/2017 20:47

Thanks for the suggestions. Torr is interesting and I do like Mads a lot but too close to DHs name!
