Hi all,

Was wondering what you think of the names May and Eva? We have quite a long surname so are looking for short, pretty girls names. Any other suggestions very welcome. We quite like:

May Evangeline
Eva May

Opinions very welcome

Eva May.
May Evangeline doesn't even go. If you don't mind me saying so

HappyLollipop · 17/09/2017 19:36

Eva may is prettier

GreenTulips · 17/09/2017 19:38

Eva is over used
May these days is spelt Mai

17caterpillars1mouse · 17/09/2017 19:38

I love May it's an underused beauty.

Eva is nice too but it is much more common and just doesn't feel as special

flissfloss65 · 17/09/2017 19:41

May is lovely. Never thought of this name and never met a young May.

Beautiful.

daisypond · 17/09/2017 20:25

May, as a first name, doesn't seem particularly common, whereas it's very common as a middle name. It's nice. Don't spell it as Mai. I think May Evangeline works fine and has a nice rhythm to it.

Yourshakraishangingout · 17/09/2017 20:43

I actually love May as a first name❤️ Simple and oh so pretty.

ChocolateCrunch · 17/09/2017 20:55

May is lovely.

Beeziekn33ze · 17/09/2017 20:57

May is very pretty !

Pemba · 17/09/2017 22:18

May is fine, but personally I prefer Eva. Both very popular at the moment (May mainly as a middle name).

Floellabella · 17/09/2017 23:10

May Evangeline by miles. Very beautiful and unusual.

Eva may is dull. Eva is very popular and may is very very popular as a middle name.

Sophronia · 18/09/2017 00:58

May is nice as a first name, but overused as a middle name.

mummytwoh · 18/09/2017 12:50

I prefer May.
I think there are just waaaaaay to many Eva Eves Ava's etc at the moment. May is a classic.
It's used a lot as a middle name but not much as a first.
Another option could be Grace maybe?

Not sure if Evangeline would flow too well if your surname is long. I'd probably stick to two syllables

ApplesTheHare · 18/09/2017 13:43

Believe it or not I know 3 young Eva Mays, and another 4 girls with May as a middle name. Both names are very popular atm.

gummibaers · 18/09/2017 14:27

May reminds me of Theresa May....

Eva is very widely used/overused imo.

Oysterbabe · 18/09/2017 14:29

I would go for May. I know 5 baby girls that have been born in the last 2 years and 3 of them are called Eva. It's so overused.

AdalindSchade · 18/09/2017 18:27

Eva and May are so yawnsome these days, sorry. Every other girls is Eva Evie Ella Ellie may mai mae something. Boring.

Jooni · 18/09/2017 20:55

I prefer Eva of the two, but Eve is even more beautiful IMO.

How about Maeve or Maeva - best of both worlds maybe? I know a baby Maeva born recently, very pretty name.

Crispmonster1 · 18/09/2017 20:56

Both lovely but Eva is becoming very common now.

purplecorkheart · 18/09/2017 21:02

Eva May is beautiful

thingymaboob · 18/09/2017 21:03

Far too common. Nurseries are full of Eva's and May's / mae / mai.

Mrsknackered · 19/09/2017 09:49

I love May. On its own it is not popular and I think it's a great standalone name. Not sure if I prefer the Mae spelling though.

I feel like this about Rose too, lots of Ella-Rose, Mercedes-Rose, etc but a Rose on its own is much rarer to find (and much prettier IMO)

Glumglowworm · 19/09/2017 10:48

May is only popular as a middle name, it's not in the top 100 first names for 2015. The only May (as first name and not something-may) would be in her late 90s now if she was still alive
