What do you think of the name Arabella? Is it too sloaney for your liking or just reasonably middle class nowadays? I really love it and think it sounds lovely especially w nn Bella. And mn suggestions, I was thinking of Kate. What do you think? Thanks for all your thoughts and suggestions :)

Not at all lovely name same with Araminta / Aramantha names.

MikeUniformMike · 16/09/2017 13:38

I like Kate. Arabella is lovely but a bit long. Bella or Ella would be usual shortenings, but Abi is a possibility. Kate Arabella Bear?

purplecorkheart · 16/09/2017 13:46

I like is a full name with Ella as a nickname

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 16/09/2017 14:18

I like the name Arabella. The Arabella I know goes by Ari :)

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 16/09/2017 17:54

I like it, Ari.

Waratah · 16/09/2017 18:02

I love it because it's my daughters name! We named her after her Scottish great, great grandmother. Arabella is a traditional name, before it ever became "sloaney", it was the name of the wife of James I of Scotland. Everyone calls my daughter Bella though and I have had a couple of people (in 14 years) tell me it's an aspirational (!) name. Donald Trump's granddaughter also called Arabella. HTH

manicinsomniac · 16/09/2017 18:42

I love it. Considered it for DD3 but didn't really want Bella which I thought would be likely.

Maddy70 · 16/09/2017 18:45

Bella is nice but Annabelle the horror movie is about to be re released. I would just worry that kids when she gets to school would associate it?

Beek84 · 16/09/2017 18:52

Of the two I like Kate. Classic and you'll probably find less popular than arabella nowadays!
Full disclosure - I'm a Kate - bit I'm 33 and I don't hear of many baby Kates

ChocolateCrunch · 16/09/2017 20:44

Lovely name

Parmaviolets13 · 16/09/2017 23:29

I love it. It's a contender if I ever have children. (But then I like all names from Harry Potter and Arabella is one of them!) 😁

Mrsknackered · 16/09/2017 23:33

I much prefer Araminta and Ariadne.
I knew an awful, aristocratic woman called Arabella and she has put me off for life. If I had never met her I'd probably love it!

DramaAlpaca · 16/09/2017 23:39

I love it. It's my favourite name ending in -bella.

endehors · 16/09/2017 23:46

Top 100 name now, I predict it will be more popular still when the stats come out shortly. I did have a point there! So might lose the stereotypical image some have a little, OP. Anyway, I like it, it's nice enough.

It is currently more popular than Kate/Katy/Katie. that surprises me, but a pp was correct.

RedastheRose · 17/09/2017 00:33

Lovely name 😊

user1492670647 · 17/09/2017 01:54

Thanks for all replies! I think Arabella probably won't be associated w Annabelle (i.e. the doll) although Annabel may.
I do agree with poster that said Arabella will lose its sloaney reputation due to the popularity of it. I actually really like Araminta too but have second thoughts as its viewed as the ultimate jolly hockey sticks name for some people and nn Minty may be teased.

Two other traditional versions to consider: Arbella and Arabel. But I like Arabella, especially with shortened form Bella.

mycatloveslego · 17/09/2017 18:45

There is an Arabella in my son's class. It's a lovely name and I hadn't really thought it was

mycatloveslego · 17/09/2017 18:46

Oops, posted too soon! I don't think it's sloaney at all.

SeamusMacDubh · 17/09/2017 19:39

I like it but prefer Araminta and Ariadne, like a PP. Also know an Arianne, I think they shorten hers to Riri.
