I like Iris, but how would you pronounce it?

Eye-russ? Like the flower?

Or Irr-uss?

I had a good friend from Germany named Iris, she pronounced it Irr-uss.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 14/09/2017 09:40

Eye-riss.

I love Etta!

TheNaze73 · 14/09/2017 09:48

I much prefer Etta.

When I hear Iris, I can't help if thinking of that Iris Scott from Crossroads. That's one for the kids & totally irrelevant Wink

I know a 10 yr old Iris and a 4 yr old Etta. Think I prefer Etta but it does sound odd as a full name on its own.

early30smum · 14/09/2017 17:27

Iris. Just seems more like a complete name to me. It's unusual without being out there.

bridgetreilly · 14/09/2017 18:20

Etta is much more old-ladyish imo. If you want to use it as a shortened form of Juliet or Harriet that would work.

Iris is a lovely name.

Schvitzing · 16/09/2017 16:39

Etta. Because I've never met one but know several Irises.
