Rylee or Eden

For a boy, I like these two.
They would have a more 'proper' middle name, either Anthony or James

What exactly is it that you like about these names OP? Why do you prefer the 'Rylee' spelling to 'Riley'? They sound the same, but one is spelt incorrectly. What exactly do you like about this spelling? It makes me wince, it doesn't make me think 'Oh how unique'. My assumption would be that you do not know how to spell.

You say you would like a more 'proper' middle name, is that because you feel that these names would be judged badly? If so, why not just choose a more traditional name?

I'm pretty sure your teenaged son would thank you for calling him James rather than Rylee or Eden.

What do you think your child would choose for themselves? I can't imagine many young men wanting to be called 'Eden' or 'Rylee'.

I have met some very unfortunately named children (Though none as unfortunate as 'Rylee' - it can have a massive impact on self-esteem.

Reilly (originally O'Reilly) is an Irish surname. I'm sick of English people taking Irish surnames and turning them into first names - why?! The spelling people usually use for the first name is Riley. You could still call him Lee for short if his name was Riley - nicknames don't have to have the same spelling (e.g. Thomas and Tom, Nicholas and Nick etc).

Rylee looks like you either can't spell or are deliberately trying to be different (in a bad way).

Eden I think sounds girly.

James and Anthony (Jamie, Jim, Jimmy, Ant, Tony all cute nicknames) are great classic names, no one will laugh at or sneer at your son the way some people on this thread would do, and I think he will thank you for it.

2/10

It's unfair and snobby but I know of recruiters who would overlook applications with either of these names on it.
I'm not saying it's right, it's just how the world is.

SilverySurfer · 12/09/2017 16:50

Both awful and if I saw a child called Rylee I would assume the parents were illiterate.

Annabelle4 · 12/09/2017 16:57

Why not just call him Lee?

FizzyGreenWater · 12/09/2017 17:04

Oh sorry misread. Was thinking it was for a girl. Sorry, Eden no good for a boy! Nice girl's name though.

Pancakeflipper · 12/09/2017 17:06

Juggle It all up and go for Edenleery

Apparently Rileys are usually naughty at school.

Yourshakraishangingout · 12/09/2017 17:08

Eden is my nephews name-his dad is Turkish and it's definitely classed as a boys name there. He's a gorgeous little thing. Both my DS and BIL are investment bankers-with his schooling I doubt his CV will be thrown in the bin ;)

Sorry, I can't defend Rilee though OP

greendale17 · 12/09/2017 17:09

Eden is a girls name.

Why spell it Rylee? Riley is better

Mrskeats · 12/09/2017 17:24

Why do people make up names these days it's awful
Rylee is not a name and Eden is a girl's name

WestLands17 · 12/09/2017 17:48

@Mrskeats Eden is unisex. I know 5 male Edens, all adults.

WestLands17 · 12/09/2017 17:48

@greendale17 ^^

Xeneth88 · 12/09/2017 17:54

I've read all your threads, did this kid do something bad to you in a previous life?

Glumglowworm · 12/09/2017 18:46

Riley. Spelt correctly.

I don't think you're actually serious though, too many threads with truly awful names.

sorry double posted Blush

TeaAndToast85 · 13/09/2017 15:13

I'm afraid I don't really like either, but then he's not my baby! Out of the two I prefer Eden, although Eden Anthony is a bit of a tribute to the old Tory PM!

FfionFlorist · 13/09/2017 15:52

Neither. James Anthony is a much better choice.

brapbrapbrap · 14/09/2017 22:31

So, I taught a new class today. A pupil named Rylee turned up! I added his name to the register and obviously wrote the correct spelling- Riley. He then had to correct me.

I totally judged his parents for his crap name and assumed he was going to be a shit misbehave.

This is what your child is going to experience.

TurquoiseChevrotain · 15/09/2017 14:06

@brapbrapbrap - maybe you shouldn't judge? Confused

Eden is definitely unisex. The first Eden I knew was a boy (in my primary school class) but I do prefer it for a girl.

I think you're on a windup though!

Idratherhaveacupoftea · 15/09/2017 14:12

I only know Eden as a boys name.

MammieBear · 15/09/2017 14:20

If you like Riley how about river? And if you like Eden how about Roman? They are more masculine names in case he sing a class with a girl that has the same name.

MammieBear · 15/09/2017 14:20

In not sing!
