Thoughts on Alana / Alanna?

My DM suggested it last night and I think it's quite pretty. Think I prefer the Alana spelling to any others. Other girls names on our shortlist are Tabitha and Robin... Thoughts welcome!

Dully Irish-American to my ears, as it is an anglicisation of "a leanbh". "Leanbh" is a baby and the initial "a" signifies that you are addressing said baby. Bit like Colleen... an Irish name that Irish people wouldn't use. Also there's Alan. Alan! Alan!

Thanks for all the replies! V helpful. SmileIt's definitely staying on the list.

Funnily enough re: Tabitha, I have never ever actually met a cat with that name! They are always called Spot or Felix or Tiggy or something cute and twee. So I wouldn't discount Tabitha for that reason.

I like Alana better pronounced a-larn-uh

Tabitha is nice enough though reminds me of kittens. Though so does Felix and everybody seems to love that

I like Robyn. Prefer Robin for a boy

The cat connection is probably due to the Tabitha Twitchit character in the Beatrix Potter stories. It wouldn't put me off though - lovely name

There was a book when I was younger called Martha B. Rabbit and Tabitha Cat too.

Sweet book. Beatrix Potter is hardly a negative association either. Smile

Yeah I was aware of the books but no real life cats. I'm finding myself defending Tabitha a lot in general actually - maybe that's my answer!
