We love old fashioned names and we love the name Isambard for a boy but are worried it's a little too out there! Thoughts/opinions please!!! Smile

I like it

Jooni · 10/09/2017 10:29

No, it's way too much for me (and my kids have fairly unusual names). Worse than Peregrine IMO and that got a slating the other day.

As a middle on the other hand, awesome. Especially with the engineering connection.

I rather like Kingdom or Brunel as middles too... 🤔

NataliaOsipova · 10/09/2017 10:32

DH likes Bard

I think you have to accept that people will mishear that as "Bart",though.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 10/09/2017 11:50

I absolutely love it!

toiletanger · 10/09/2017 12:08

Bartholemew would be a little more acceptable I think

ohshiz · 11/09/2017 16:16

Please don't. Shock

greendale17 · 11/09/2017 16:18

Bard? Sound awdul

ToothTrauma · 11/09/2017 16:19

No it sounds like Isengard, as in 'The hobbits are going to'

chocatoo · 11/09/2017 16:22

Your poor child...

terrylene · 11/09/2017 16:27

Brilliant name. No idea why there are not more of them. You get so many names around now that are way out Confused and nowhere near as good as this.

grufallosfriend · 11/09/2017 16:37

Isambard is a lovely name!

Circumlocutor · 11/09/2017 18:32

Don't do it.

grufallosfriend · 11/09/2017 18:57

Why not?

JuicyCake · 11/09/2017 18:59

First read as Islamabad...

Never heard of this name.

pinkhorse · 11/09/2017 19:21

I thought it said Islamabad too!

scrivette · 11/09/2017 19:24

I like it. I don't think I would shorten it though.

Helspopje · 11/09/2017 19:27

Not so keen
How about Aylmer?

TrunkiTrailer · 11/09/2017 19:28

I love Isambard but not the nicknames. I know a boy Isambard nn Izzy.

Bard sounds like you named him after Shakespeare.

Issy/Izzy is very feminine

Sam is a stretch as it's not actually the sound of the "S-A-M" letters in Isambard.

user1468353179 · 11/09/2017 19:34

t all depends on what sort of school he'll go to. If it's full of Horatios/Ptomelys etc then fair enough, but if it's going to be full of Kaydens/Jaydens then I think it's really unfair.

gingergenius · 11/09/2017 19:36

I like Brunel actually!!!

mathanxiety · 11/09/2017 20:05

You could shorten it to Zam. Or just not shorten it.

stumblymonkeyagain · 11/09/2017 20:12

I love it...I don't think I'd be brave enough to use it as a first name though.

velvetcake · 12/09/2017 10:24

Thanks for all the opinions folks!... we've decided against it. I can't picture shouting Isambard across the playground!!! Back to the drawing board... Grin

Phew! I am so glad you decided against it.
I'm all for an unusual, old school name but I couldn't feel the feels everyone here was feeling for this name.
It's a handle.
I have no doubt you'll come up with a good name though. You're on the right track. Pun intended. Wink
