Thoughts on this name? How popular is it? My ds's name is outside of the top 100 but am happy to have a more popular one ( people always ask twice when they hear his name despite it being a real, perfectly normal name with a long history!!)

Do you prefer it to Caleb?

Yes, much prefer it, don't like that name at all.

steppemum · 09/09/2017 09:34

My Isaac is 14.
It wasn't even in top 100 when we chose, it, but it is a family name.
We have come across one or two others, not many, one other in his year group I think at secondary school.
It is a great name. It never gets shortened, or nicknames.

I worry about the I suck teasing potential don't worry about this, it is nonesense, I ahve only ever seen it on mn!

twofloorsup · 09/09/2017 09:55

I have a 17 year old Isaac. We call him Iz most of the time.
Absolutely love the name I think it's more popular nowadays but I wouldn't say it's common.
Be prepared to correct the spelling from Issac all the time Hmm
Never even thought of I suck as its more of a Z sound than an S.

ChickenBhuna · 09/09/2017 09:57

Lovely name. Beautiful , traditional but not too common.

bridgetreilly · 09/09/2017 09:57

Zack is another possible shortened form.

I do prefer Isaac to Caleb, though I like both.

alltouchedout · 09/09/2017 09:59

Lovely name! I know an Isaac who is a year old, but no others that I can think of.

GingerMcGrey · 09/09/2017 10:01

I have an Isaac aged 6. He is the only one in his year, 2 form entry so 60 kids.

I love it but we do get a LOT of weird misspellings, even my DH gets it wrong and it's really not that hard to spell!

CircleofWillis · 09/09/2017 10:10

I love the name Isaac. I think it means something to do with laughter. I work with the Hasidic Jewish community and so have encountered it quite a bit.

Nelly1727 · 09/09/2017 10:11

I love it. I know about 6 Isaac's.

user1459464195 · 09/09/2017 10:51

I have one and he's the one I "know" although I do hear the name shouted a bit in playgrounds so definitely know there are more around! Be warned though, SO many people can't spell Isaac correctly. We've had Issac, Izakk (seriously?!), Isacc.

I like Caleb too.

C0untDucku1a · 09/09/2017 18:48

It is a popular name in many languges as Isaac was a patriarch, so a key figure in Judaism, Christianity and Islam, so there are various spellings depending on country of origin. Ishaq, Ishak, Izak.

mrszebrastripe · 09/09/2017 18:54

My youngest was going to be Isaac if she was a boy. Classic and timeless. I
love it.

OublietteBravo · 09/09/2017 18:54

I have an 11 year old Isaac. We've called him all sorts of things over the years (Zac-Zac, Zackles, Ike), but mostly he goes by his full name (although his friends sometimes call him Ice). He really likes his name, and I'd still use it even though it has become more popular over the years.

OublietteBravo · 09/09/2017 18:56

Yes to the mid-spellings though. Especially Issac. Hmm

isittheholidaysyet · 09/09/2017 18:56

Love it.

Round here I can think of a 6 year old and a 17 year old.

spiderlight · 11/09/2017 15:34

I love it. I had both Isaac and Caleb on my list for DS.

thisismadness77 · 11/09/2017 15:35

Love it and don't know any.

VanessaBet · 11/09/2017 15:39

I have one, we call him Zac as much as Isaac. Means 'laughing one' so nice meaning

IWantACheeseburger · 11/09/2017 19:13

I have one, it's a lovely name. He's only one though and we have already had a few misspellings and people saying I-zack.
Oh and we call him Ike as a NN.

GinasGirl · 11/09/2017 19:26

My Isaac is 17, we don't know any others around his age, but I know it has become much more popular in recent years.
I love it, it really suits him even though I had a tiny wobble when we initially went for it.
There has never been a problem with teasing like I-suck, but plenty of problems with the spelling Issac/Isack and in one case Issaack Grin
