I would assume he was Irish. Which if he is, great, but if not, could get irritating.

CompletePractice · 07/09/2017 11:24

He isn't Sad

It's not just Irish, there's a Northumberland connection for a start (St. Aidan) and a few famous Aidans around too now, so I don't think most people would necessarily assume anything.

Stiddleficks · 07/09/2017 11:49

I know of a few Aidan's living on Wales, I Ike it.

Tilapia · 07/09/2017 11:51

I like it. I wouldn't assume he was Irish.

Notreallyarsed · 07/09/2017 11:51

We have an Aidan and we're not Irish, we're Scottish.

MammieBear · 07/09/2017 12:33

It's a saint name not exclusive to the Irish at all, if you like it use it.

midsomermurderess · 07/09/2017 13:43

I don't think it has a particularly Irish connection. FWIW, I love it, clean and crisp and unfussy.

BlueChampagne · 07/09/2017 13:48

St Aidan was originally Irish and came to Northumbria via Iona, thus covering Scotland and England as well! And there's Aidan Turner ...

But it will get mis-spelt.

daisypond · 07/09/2017 13:49

I like it. I wouldn't assume an Irish connection either.

Notreallyarsed · 07/09/2017 15:19

But it will get mis-spelt

Oh god yes it drives me up the wall! A side note being Aidan is actually the anglicised version of Aodhan which is pronounced the same way.

EsmeeMerlin · 07/09/2017 15:23

It's on our list of names for our second baby due March. I really like it.

Cynara · 07/09/2017 15:25

It's lovely. I wanted it for DS but DP doesn't like it so we compromised with something else. I still wish I'd been allowed it, I love it.

CumbrianExile · 07/09/2017 15:39

I love it, but I am biased as I have one!

It does get mis-spelt a lot (Aiden usually, but I have seen other interesting spellings and DS is only 3) but I still think its a great name.

ladybirdsaredotty · 07/09/2017 16:08

Love it Smile

nodogsinthebedroom · 07/09/2017 16:11

I'm not hugely keen on the name, but Aidan Gillen is lovely.

jellyandsoup · 07/09/2017 16:13

Love it!

snozzlemaid · 07/09/2017 16:15

Love it. We're not Irish but I have an Aidan who will soon be 20!

HRHPrincessMegan · 07/09/2017 16:22

Aidan hit his prime in 1970's Carlow, driving around in his Ford Capri listening to Thin Lizzy. He later moved to Dublin to work in insurance.

It was a very popular name in the 50's & 60's Ireland. Not so much now. Could be time for a revival.

Whathaveilost · 07/09/2017 16:26

I like it.
I know a few ( not in the same locality) between the ages of 15 and 35 and it helps that they are all nice people!

DramaAlpaca · 07/09/2017 16:28

Lovely name.

Jedbartletforpresident · 07/09/2017 16:37

I know quite a few between the ages of 5-20 (i.e. school/uni age) - off the top of my head I can think of 8 in our primary school alone, and 5 in either 1st/2nd year at secondary age (not all the same school), and then 4 17-20 age (i.e. School leavers/uni age)

I think that most are spelled Aiden but I do know a couple are definitely Aidan and there are some I don't know the spelling of.

I'm in NE Scotland

DerelictWreck · 07/09/2017 16:47

I don't think of it as Irish at all, and have not idea how you could miss-spell it?

Notreallyarsed · 07/09/2017 16:48

Our Aidan has been spelled, Aiden, Ayden, Aden, Aydin and SIL spells it Adian but she's a massive twat
