My husband and I can not decide on a baby name. But we have found one we Love!!!!! Here's the issue it's Grayson. Our surname is Gray. Would it be ridiculous to name a child Grayson Gray, (middle name to be decided). Please help

You wouldn't be the first to do it... but to be blunt most people will think you're idiots with no imagination. However, if you're ok with that and Grey really is the only name you like, go for it and sod everyone else. Better just hope your kid has a strong constitution!

TheWeeWitch · 03/09/2017 00:18

The poor child will have a name that sounds like he's an actor in a daytime soap and will have the initials GG - like what people call horses (we won some money on the gee gees!).

NuffSaidSam · 03/09/2017 00:46

It's clearly ridiculous.

It's also probably a name you like just because it sounds familiar what with it already being your surname. If your surname was Peters you'd love Peter, Johnson suddenly John would sound great.

You need to go back to the drawing board. Or change your surname. Would Grayson work with your maiden name as a surname?

PsychoPumpkin · 03/09/2017 00:53

I like it. In theory.
But it's an actual human who has to live with the name for the rest of their lives so it's a no from me.

Sophronia · 03/09/2017 02:11

No. Don't do it.

RockyTop · 03/09/2017 07:17

I've come across two Harry Harrisons in the course of my work so it's not a totally unheard of structure. It kind of like Grayson Gray in theory, but in practise it's a little silly.

Hydrangea28 · 03/09/2017 07:34

Thank all for your help. I just wanted to prove a point to my husband. We don't know what we are having yet so got plenty of time to think of something else!

It would be very stupid.

I hope your dh sees that before poor child is born.

Jason Gray
Ronson Gray
RobsonGray
Graeme Gray
Hudson Gray

Decaffstilltastesweird · 03/09/2017 09:50

I don't like it at all, sorry. Grayson Gray? Really? Not good imo.

Magnus Magnusson was born in Iceland. It's traditional there for your last name to be your father's (or occasionally mother's) first name, with son or dottir at the end for a male or female baby respectively.

londonfeather · 03/09/2017 10:18

Do it! It's great to have a memorable name. There are enough Amelia Smiths in this world already....

ImDoingLaundry · 03/09/2017 11:13

It's like David Davies or Jack Jackson. Sorry, it just sounds silly.

What about Harrison?

KeepCalm · 03/09/2017 16:32

We can help. We love a name dilemma on MN Grin

What about Carter?

Glumglowworm · 03/09/2017 19:58

Don't do it, it's ridiculous

I occasionally encounter similar names through my work and judge the parents of these adult men. Why would anyone do that to their child? I did encounter a woman who's middle name was virtually the same as her surname and thought how unfortunate but no judging in that case as obviously her parents weren't to know she'd marry someone with that surname.

BasiliskStare · 03/09/2017 20:58

I had a friend called John Johnson - didn't seem to raise an eyebrow with anyone. Not keen on Grayson , but that is a different thing

saritah · 04/09/2017 07:51

No way. Sorry, but it's only a good name if it works with your surname.

Heyx · 04/09/2017 08:11

Really stupid. And Grayson is an awful name on its own.
