Opinions on the name Robyn for a girl...or Robin. Is it seen as chavvy? My oh loves it but i'm not sure

I like it.

Sophronia · 01/09/2017 20:55

I prefer Robin for a boy

Chaffinch4 · 01/09/2017 20:55

I like it. Dislike the Robyn spelling, but I think that's the more common girls spelling.

Dobinette · 01/09/2017 21:00

Love it.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 01/09/2017 21:01

Robyn...not chavvy.

MissJSays · 01/09/2017 21:01

I wouldn't pick it myself but it is quite cute!

Missyb15 · 01/09/2017 21:02

yay! i think i prefer the spelling robin but i know y is more commonly used for girls

I like it but prefer Robin.

ShmooBooMoo · 01/09/2017 21:04

One of my favourites spelt Robin for a boy or a girl. I don't like the Robyn spelling, though. oddly, earlier, well before I saw your post I was thinking Robin Noelle is a pretty name for a baby girl born in winter :)

Missyb15 · 01/09/2017 21:05

robin with an i makes more sense as it's obvs the same spelling as the bird...the y makes it seem more like a made up name just to make it more feminine? iykwim. i just hope she wouldn't be mistaken as a boy too much

I'm happy to name your baby for you if you don't mind Grin I won't be using it Grin

MooMooTheFirst · 01/09/2017 21:10

I love it for a girl but I do prefer y, I'm not sure why though. I wouldn't have thought it was chavvy at all, I think it's a beautiful strong name. The only thing that bothered me when I was listing names before we knew DS was a DS, was that I don't like Rob/Robbie as an abbreviation for a girl BlushBlush

DontbeaDickaboutit · 01/09/2017 21:18

My DD is called Robyn, never occurred to us to use an "in" - think "yn" makes it more recognisable she's a girl.

To be honest with you, it's a complete marmite name for others, we've had strangers telling us how much we love it, and people we know wrinkling their nose up at it so as with all names, make sure you love it before you use it!!

Her nickname is Robs, Bobs, Bobbie, Bobbin Robyn.....

Scrumptiousbears · 01/09/2017 21:20

I have a Robyn. It really suits her.

Missyb15 · 01/09/2017 21:24

I love the nn bobbie...never thought about that as a possibility. It's definitely growing on me, my oh loves it and he's really fussy about names. My dad is called rob so hopefully it wouldn't be shortened to that! It's definitely one to think about. Trouble is i have loads of names i love and oh keeps vetoing them

Jonsnowsghost · 01/09/2017 21:25

Mine is with a y and I prefer it, even though people still automatically think I'm a man before they see me Grin

Missyb15 · 01/09/2017 21:30

haha Jonsnowsghost, i think it's a better female name so would assume the other way around

DontbeaDickaboutit · 01/09/2017 21:52

I really don't like it for a boy, not sure why.

It means Bright Fame - suits my little Bobs down the ground.

Personally, I really think it makes from every other Evie, Daisy, Poppy, Bella, Eva, Ava out there. No offence.

DontbeaDickaboutit · 01/09/2017 21:53

Makes a change*

mamaduckbone · 01/09/2017 21:54

I associate Robin with a boy and Robyn with a girl. I prefer it as a girl's name - I taught a lovely girl called Robyn once.

Applesandpears56 · 01/09/2017 22:57

Not chavvy at all. Robyn for girl robin for boy

Joinourclub · 01/09/2017 23:18

I think it's lovely. I prefer Robin for male or female.

Jooni · 02/09/2017 06:34

I think it's a great name. I too prefer Robin no matter the sex. The y spelling looks a little bit clumsy to me, though it is by far the more common spelling for girls. Bobby/Bobs is an adorable nickname!
