Which one do you prefer? Also we would welcome any other suggestions.

My parents had the same dilemma! They used both but put Amy as a middle name. People have tried to shorten my name to Mandy a couple of times but I've never let it stand.

It's not too bad a name. And you won't have a load of them at the same school when she is growing up. There's two of my dds name in her year, three holly's, four charlottes and about six Amy's of various spellings

Amy. Amanda is so dated. Amy is cute, but also strong and I think it can grow with a child.

Thanks for answering everyone. Flowers

Amanda. Amy is too small and cutesy.

Neither.

ragz134 · 01/09/2017 18:28

Amelie is nice. If that's how you spell it?

Googlieyes · 01/09/2017 18:28

Until a few years ago I'd have said Amy but is more common than Amanda now so I'd opt for Amanda. Of course can be shortened to manda or mandy which are nice shorts.

I was born in 1968 (I know, I don't look my age - it is the keyboard) and am an Amanda. I was one of 4/24 in my year at an all girls' school and then the name fell off a cliff. In fact, I met one recently and we joked we were the only 2 in Scotland. I have always been Mandy but my best friend is from school is Amanda.

Both names are fab. Mandy can sound a bit estuary in some accents but it is a friendly, easy name and has never given me any trouble. I am Amanda for official documents but don't answer to it.

I say, go for it!! Great name(s) and their owners are always hugely popular, successful, beautiful and loved (Amanda is Latin for one who should be loved). You can tell this because I told you so and Mandy / Amandas never lie.

RainbowdropsandUnicorns · 01/09/2017 18:58

I think I'm leaning towards Amanda.

All the posts saying Amanda are making me happy, and all the ones saying Amy are making me disappointed. I think my heart has already made the decision without me realising!!

Thanks for posting.

I agree with the above consensus: Amy is timeless, whereas Amanda feels quite dated (those born in the late-1950s/early 60s - my mum's generation).

Roseformeplease · 01/09/2017 19:34

Or 1968. More like a very youthful aunt.

Floralnomad · 01/09/2017 19:35

Amanda , I also know a few and only one gets called Mandy , but that's what she refers to herself as .

RainbowdropsandUnicorns · 01/09/2017 21:01

Dh and I agree. We are going with Amanda.

Thanks everybody Flowers
