Hi, we'd be glad to know which of our 2 shortlist names you prefer. DD2 coming in 2 weeks. It's been a loooong journey getting to these 2 names. We'd like some extra input to help us make the final decision. DD1 nn is Sunny.

Thank you Smile

Elin (Elle-in)

Mali (Mally)

Mali gets my vote, another Welsh Mumsnetter in North Wales.

Glumglowworm · 25/08/2017 15:31

Mali

(I live in SE Wales)

Sophronia · 25/08/2017 16:15

I like both, but prefer Mali

Imnotatypicalsausage · 25/08/2017 19:21

Elin is beautiful.

I think it's more classic. Goes better with Sunny too.

Might steal it myself!

Huffletuff · 25/08/2017 19:26

Elin, because I'm a teacher and Sali Mali Grin

meltingmarshmallows · 25/08/2017 23:07

Love both! But Elin I think wins slightly for me

ImperialBlether · 25/08/2017 23:10

I like Eleri.

Notso · 25/08/2017 23:15

Mali or Mabli

Thank you, everyone, for your votes and your helpful comments Smile Have a great weekend!

I have taught a Mali, it did get pronounced like the country. She changed the spelling to Malley - which gave me more of an American vibe than Welsh.

Elin is lovely.

EdmundCleverClogs · 26/08/2017 14:31

Elin was my top choice for a girl, but found out we're having another boy, so it'd be nice for someone to use it Grin.

Mali is nice but reminds me too much of Sali Mali (who I loved as a kid and has a very funny adult Facebook page).

RamsayBoltonsConscience · 26/08/2017 14:44

Elin is lovely and i was doing to call my baby Elen if it had been a girl. Ds came along so it was plan B Grin

MikeUniformMike · 26/08/2017 14:48

Elin is lovely and is used in other countries too.
It will be mispronounced as Ellin or Ellen.
It is pronounced ELL-in with the I said like the 'i' in English 'big'.

Mali is pronounced Mally and will be mispronounced as Marley, Mali name of the country, and more.

Both nice names if you speak welsh and live in a welsh-speaking community.

BlueberryPuffin · 26/08/2017 15:15

I agree that there's a fair chance your DD might want to leave Wales at some point. And Mali would then often be mispronounced.

Besides, Elin is a much nicer name anyway.

MikeUniformMike · 26/08/2017 15:23

Pry Bach Tew.

MammieBear · 26/08/2017 16:24

Elin all the way or Elowen?......

beachydays · 26/08/2017 18:31

Thank you so much. It's good to have such positivity. There's a clear favourite and Mali is probably off the list, now, as some comments have captured our doubts about it. I think we're going name-blind, though. - We're not 100% sure about Elin. But then we don't love any of the zillions of names we've considered over the months Blush. So your positive reaction to Elin is helping us.

MammieBear - Elowen is v close to my (lovely) boss' name Grin

Not in the least bit helpful, but I also loved Eliana if Elin didn't fly. I loved the shortening to Eli/Ellie but with an nice long version for the birth certificate.

lisara79 · 26/08/2017 20:36

Dw i'n hoffi Mali! It's defiantly may favorate. My friend has a Mali and has had no problems so far. Lots of names are mispronounced, especially Welsh names... my friend Geraint always suffered at uni in Bristol and my friends son Ieaun may have some issues at uni in Birmingham this year.

scrabbler3 · 26/08/2017 20:44

Oooh love Mabli. I also really like Elin.

Welsh friends of mine have a Nansi and a Manon, both lovely.
