Will she be constantly saying, "No, not Margaret" and how frustrating would she find it?

My instinct is yes and very so maybe use as a middle name would be better.

Only by morons! Go for it!

Zampa · 22/08/2017 16:51

Ha! Thanks!

It's my MIL's name and I really like it but not sure whether she'll find us using her name flattering or annoying.

Another quandary!

There was a Marguerite in my class at school. We never had any problems with the name. I always thought it was quite exotic. I've never met another. I like it.

ShaneBitchy · 22/08/2017 16:54

Margot instead?
Or be really fancy- Margeaux

MollyHuaCha · 22/08/2017 16:54

It's a lovely name.

grasspigeons · 22/08/2017 16:54

There is one in my sons class. It's been accepted just fine.

Zampa · 22/08/2017 16:57

I do like Margot (Margot Robbie first brought this name to my attention) but also quite like the idea of calling Marguerite "Rita"!

Marguerite is very different to Margaret and I would pronounce them accordingly.

grufallosfriend · 22/08/2017 18:08

I.e. differently

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 22/08/2017 18:42

Great name, and loving Rita !😄

EivissaSenorita · 22/08/2017 19:07

I love it Smile

Sophronia · 22/08/2017 20:24

I like Marguerite with Daisy for short!

ShaneBitchy · 22/08/2017 20:26

If you're going to call her Marguerite then please stick with calling her that. Daisy is so boring and Marguerite is lovely!

Mineshalfamilkstout · 22/08/2017 20:28

It's fine imo.

Would you ask your mil? I would if I were you.

99point9FahrenheitDegrees · 22/08/2017 21:05

Same here! My MIL loves her name and my DD loves it too though we did only use as a middle. It is lovely, go for it. I hope your MIL is as nice as mine!

grufallosfriend · 22/08/2017 21:53

Daisy? I wouldn't shorten Marguerite to that! I also love Margherita!

Monstamio · 22/08/2017 21:56

I think Daisy is the traditional diminutive. But I agree the long version is much prettier. Go for it!

Zampa · 22/08/2017 22:32

Thanks for all of your opinions. I wasn't expecting them to be so positive (or at all positive!).

@mineshalfamilkstout I discussed this with DP and we're not sure whether MIL would be flattered or uncomfortable so agree we'd need to broach the subject first.

@99point9FahrenheitDegrees Using it as a middle name is a good option, especially in light of the above. But I do so love it!

It's lovely. I don't think it's too like Margaret at all.
All the Emilys, Amelies, Amelias manage , I suppose, and all the Avas, Evas, Evies too.

TroysMammy · 22/08/2017 22:44

I love it. I've suggested it a couple of times lately on these boards.

Rainatnight · 22/08/2017 22:46

Oh lovely, I'd never thought of that.

writes surreptitously on list for second DD we don't have

SwissChristmasMuseum · 22/08/2017 22:57

Trumpy where diid you go to school?

n0ne · 23/08/2017 08:53

Gorgeous, and love Rita as a nn

MammieBear · 23/08/2017 13:27

I would say use it, I think it's refreshing to see it being picked after being neglected for so long.

Coloursthatweremyjoy · 23/08/2017 13:29

That was my grandmothers name. I've always loved it, people always used to comment on how pretty it was.
