What do you think of Amalia?

Pronounced A-MAH-lia. Just come across it and think it's beautiful and unusual, but can imagine it would constantly be mistaken as Amelia.

Thoughts?

Love it Smile Back in my home country is quite common though

RelaxMax · 14/08/2017 16:29

I know one and it's not been confused with Amelia so far. I like it.

leccybill · 14/08/2017 16:29

I know 2. It's a pretty name.

crumpet · 14/08/2017 16:30

DD had a friend with that name, pronounced Ama-LEE-a

MrsMozart · 14/08/2017 16:32

Pretty, but she will spend her entire life correcting both the pronunciation and the spelling.

Loopytiles · 14/08/2017 16:33

Sounds made up and will be mispronounced/spelled.

Imnotatypicalsausage · 14/08/2017 16:40

It's pretty enough... considerations are that i would tend to pronounce it A-may-lee-a, and as pp said there will be variations, and also it seems like you just wanted to be different to Amelia for the sake of it. So you get the negatives of choosing a popular name but without the benefits iyswim.

Lweji · 14/08/2017 16:44

She was a great singer. Grin

I don't think it would be confused with Amelia, but it might often be pronounced as A-may-lia, possibly.

Ropsleybunny · 14/08/2017 16:46

I really don't like it, sorry.

Yes, totally get where you're coming from. Worried it looks like one of those names that gets spelled wrong to be "unusual" like Caleb as Kayleb etc.

Ha! Okay, maybe Amalia is out then. Her middle name will be Francesca. My DS has a very popular Hebrew name. Any suggestions?

It is nice but does look like a misspelled Amelia.

early30smum · 14/08/2017 17:17

Love it and have known 2. Think it's a 'name' in its own right enough not to be assumed as a misspelling for Amelia.

Jooni · 14/08/2017 17:20

It's ok, but in my mind is just another spin on uber popular Amelia. I wouldn't describe it as "unusual" despite the numbers.

What about just Amal? I think that's beautiful, but maybe too Mrs Clooney now...

MillieMoodle · 14/08/2017 17:35

I know two, one pronounced
a-MAH-lia and the other pronounced amma-lia.

I prefer the first pronounciation. I think it might be of Spanish origin?

grasspigeons · 14/08/2017 17:42

I know an amalia - I think it's a nice straight forward name.

Fridgedooropen · 14/08/2017 17:45

I'd never seen it before. I'm afraid I would have assumed it was a 'different' spelling of Amelia.

Lweji · 14/08/2017 17:58

The most famous Amalia.

I mean the Amalia restaurant looks very lovely, and I'm luckily not anywhere near Liverpool Grin

Other names that we've considered are Elodie (love this), Tess, Esther and Edith. I seem to be drawn toward E names!

Amalia is lovely. Elodie is also very pretty.

Lemondrop99 · 14/08/2017 19:55

I knew an Amaya which is quite pretty

Jooni · 14/08/2017 20:18

Esther and Tess are both fab!

How about the modern Cornish name Elowen? Or Emmeline?

StatueInTheSky · 14/08/2017 20:22

I love Edith....am quite fond of old lady chic for names!
