Be kind. Thoughts on Jackson, Nova and our "other list"

We do not know what we are having but after thinking we had our names laid out... We changed our mind, and it seems we keep changing it.

We agreed on the name Jax for a boy but that's now changed to Jackson. I really wanted Jack but DP said no way.

We agreed on either Talia, Mila, Lara or Kady for a girl (see where we had trouble) but I now like Nova. DP yet to form a opinion solidly on the name yet but loves Lara which is my least favourite out the choices.

How do you know when you've found "the name" ?

Also for a boy do you prefer Jackson, Jax or Jack. And a girl Mila, Talia, Lara, Kady or Nova?

Boys middle name is Ph in sound and girls is Beh in sound if that at all matters.

Jackson is good, very popular round day where I am (Merseyside) and Nova has a lovely meaning.

MammieBear · 15/08/2017 16:04

Ignore day silly phone!

OnNaturesCourse · 15/08/2017 18:12

Not a fan of Dexter. Reminds me of the TV show about the serial killer lol.

I wish I had pushed more with Rourke. Maybe need to bring it back up... Any ideas how to convince DP? Lol.

Jackson/ Jax will be the Darren of this generation- it'll really date, like anything linked with pop culture (I'm guessing your DP likes it after the main guy from Sons of Anarchy?)

Jack is a classic name which was popular for a reason- it's lovely

diddl · 15/08/2017 18:27

Max & Lara.

Also like Nova though as my u had a lovely cousin with that name.

She would be in her 80s if still with us.

Montsti · 15/08/2017 20:43

Mila & Jack😊

Theveryhungrybutterfly · 15/08/2017 20:56

Max is a perfectly lovely and proper name given to lots of boys - definitely not (only) a dogs name. Maximilian/Maximus/Maxim etc.

Agree Jax is a bit uneeq. Don't like Jackson personally, its a surname, but that's my taste. Jack is nice but I see why you are concerned it's too common. Better than being unusual for the sake of it though, it will age much better.

Rourke is really dreadful, sorry! Roman, Ralph, Reuben, Rowan?

Lara, Mila, Lena, Lyra, Stella all nice.

YourVagesty · 15/08/2017 21:04

Love Nova, a very pretty name

HeteronormativeHaybales · 15/08/2017 22:49

Jackson, Jax = awful.
Jack = not keen, and far too popular.
Lara = nice.
Talia = lovely. Spell it Thalia and you've named her after the muse of comedy.
Mila and Nova are very similar in vibe IMO, and not my thing at all but qutie cool, actually.
Kady - no, just don't.
How about Nina?

greendale17 · 15/08/2017 22:56

Jack and Mila

MrsJoyOdell · 15/08/2017 23:08

Nova is awful - people will either think car or super hero. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nova_(Sam_Alexander)

Nola is nice though, I know a small Nola. Also love Mila. Jackson is OK but whether you like Jack or not, it'll end up being his name if you call him Jackson.

OnNaturesCourse · 17/08/2017 10:36

I still haven't found any boys names to both our likings.

DP has grown to love Nova however and the marvel connection actually helped that. Talia is from Batman so has a DC connection. It all very popular in our house!

A name that has oddly grown on me in the past few days is Aaron, but I used to hate that name so it could be baby name fog that causing it!

I never in my life thought naming someone would be this hard lol.

FizzyGreenWater · 17/08/2017 15:10

Lara is lovely. Stick with that - and as it's your DP's choice then throw in some new boy ones from your side?

Jackson is not as good as Jack and he will end up as Jack anyway! Both quite boring, Jackson a bit naff. Start again is my advice!

I'm not keen on Rourke but here are some other ideas:

Struan

Heath

Rhodri

Rory

Cormac

Seth

Caleb

Louis

and Max is great!

Intothenestofvipers · 17/08/2017 15:11

I only like Jack and Lara out of that lot.

ibentmywookie · 17/08/2017 15:23

With the exception of Lara (and at a push Talia) all of your girl names sound like sanpro or sex toys. Kady and Nova are awful.

I don't like Jax for a boy, it just looks made up or like a nickname (I know two fortysomething Jacquelines who go by it). Jack, or Jackson, are just fine. Lachlan/Lochlan is great, although I know of several small ones.

Rourke is dire as well, it makes me think of poor Mickey Rourke and his mashed up plastic face.

OnNaturesCourse · 17/08/2017 21:46

No need to be rude ibentmywookie with reference to sex toys etc your other points are valid and constructively put however.

I dont even know Mickey Rourke, I've heard of him but no idea who he is or what he done. I got the name from the film River Wild. Loved it as a kid.

The name, either gender, is ultimately up to DP. Obviously we need to agree on it but he picks off our agreed list as I choose both middle names.

What about Orla for a girl or Callen/Kallen for a boy (Cal Len)

OnNaturesCourse · 18/08/2017 08:29

Well after a chat last night... Our list has actually changed but Jax is still holding. But DP has scored off Jack completely.

So we have :
Jaxon
Lincoln
Dominic

OR

Nova
Mila
Roxanne
Talia
Lara

DPs favourites are Jaxon and Roxanne, closely followed by Nova.
Mine are Dominic or Jaxon and Nova.

Lord help us, we might have a name by the time bump is 18 years old. 😂

Fridgedooropen · 18/08/2017 12:26

Have to say I really don't go for Jaxon as a spelling. Lifetime of spelling it out and correcting people ahead.

WhenLoveAndCakeCollide · 18/08/2017 12:32

I have a niece called Nova (we are in the States), and I must admit, I was taken aback by the choice at first. However I have grown to love it, because I love her. It's not a conventional choice, but I prefer it to some of the names that are popular over there in the UK, such as Lexie (urgh).

FizzyGreenWater · 18/08/2017 14:30

Hmm, when you say he gets to choose as you chose two middle names - what's happening about the surname?

PLEASE say that as you aren't married the baby WILL be having your surname?! (you really really REALLY should do this...)

Because if not - I don't see how two names each, with you getting the two middle names and him getting first choice on the two names that the baby is actually known by is fair at all...

Dominic and Nova are your best choices btw. Jaxon isn't good.

MrsJoyOdell · 18/08/2017 15:31

Nova is a male marvel hero though Hmm

Decaffstilltastesweird · 18/08/2017 15:34

I like Lincoln, Dominic, Roxanne (how cute is Roxy?) and Lara.

For some reason I really dislike Jaxon and Jax (sorry). I don't mind Jackson and I like other x names; dexter, Rex, Max, Xavier. So it isn't an x problem!

OnNaturesCourse · 18/08/2017 18:35

We went though other "x" names last night and NOTHING was agreeing with either of us so we now really can't work out what we actually like in a name.

As a note, I strongly believe baby should have dads surname if the parents relationship is good.

OP posts:
KateCornflake · 18/08/2017 20:02

If you both like Jax/Jaxon, I say go for it & don't worry what others think. It's grown on me over the life of this thread! Good for a child to have parents that know their own minds. Same for Nova too. I would choose one "conventional" middle name though as an option for your s/d to use in later life if they choose.

Theveryhungrybutterfly · 18/08/2017 20:38

Jax better than Jaxon - Jax only has one sensible spelling but if you hear Jaxon you'd assume Jackson. Jax is cooler too, go for it
