Can I ask your opinions?

It's OH's favourite, I think it's sweet but I'm not sure what I think about unisex names...

I know 2 girl Brodies (ages 2 and 9) and 1boy (age 5). Its ok but not to my taste.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/08/2017 10:00

I know two girl Brodies. It doesn't do anything for me tbh.

PickleSarnie · 14/08/2017 10:02

I'd assume any female Brodie was American.

I'd assume any Bridie was a meat and potato pasty.

WaxOnFeckOff · 14/08/2017 10:04

Call your child what you like but when you have a boy in the future, don't come moaning that there are no boys name left. There are already many many more options for girls than there are for boys yet still people want to use boys names for girls.

Kellyturnbull · 14/08/2017 10:45

I love it for a girl (but I love unisex names 😍) I have family in both Australia and Canada and Brody is a common girls name, I'm in Scotland where it's popular for boys but I do know two female Brodie's (teen and aged 5) both adorable and suit there names
If you love a name go for it, my baby girls name is Finley and we couldn't love her name more 💗.
We've never once had anyone say anything bad about her name until I posted on a mums forum where everyone seemed to hate unisex names 🙈😂
I love know girls named Andi, Bobbi, Charley, Finley, Rory.. so why not Brodi! x

WaxOnFeckOff · 14/08/2017 10:49

But they aren't unisex names, they are boys names being used for girls. Andi, Bobbi and Charlie not so much as they are shortenings of girls names.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 14/08/2017 11:50

Sorry, it's a no, from me. I see it as a masculine name.

TurquoiseOwl · 15/08/2017 03:22

@Kellyturnbull - Finley isn't unisex. I know you named your daughter it and that's fine, but is a person named their son Sue, it wouldn't become unisex.

stellarfox · 15/08/2017 14:43

Never seen this as a girls name in the UK. Not keen on it for a girl

Pemba · 15/08/2017 15:40

It's a surname or (just possibly) a boys' name. Scottish, I think. My main associations are 'The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie' and more recently the (male) character played by Damian Lewis in 'Homeland'. It's not really appropriate as a girls' name. There are so many lovely girls' names available, why do it?

greendale17 · 15/08/2017 15:51

Only for a boy and even then I don't really like it

MammieBear · 15/08/2017 15:58

It tends to be more popular for boy's than girls, but I have met a little girl called Brodie.

bookworm14 · 15/08/2017 16:03

I wonder if all these people calling their daughters Brodie, Finlay, Parker etc would ever call a son Emily, Amelia or Sophia? Why is 'unisex' only one-way?

Pemba · 15/08/2017 16:08

Exactly, bookworm

I feel sorry for those little girls saddled with a boys' name, TBH.

mistermagpie · 15/08/2017 16:12

It's not unisex, it's a boys name. I'm in Scotland and know a few little Brodies but they are boys. Because it's a boys name.

Finlay/Finley is also a boy's name,

kali110 · 15/08/2017 17:07

What makes you think Brodie's a unisex name? It's a nice name, quite common in Scotland in particular, but it's as boy-specific as John, afaik.
I've known it as a girl and boy, maybe it depends where you're from.

kali110 · 15/08/2017 17:07

Love it as a girl

kali110 · 15/08/2017 17:08

Kellyturnbull was going to say it sems to be popular for a female in oz Smile

Whathaveilost · 15/08/2017 17:09

It's really grown on me now that I know a few.
I know a couple of teenagers and a toddler called this.
Yes, it's nice!

DCFlemingreportingforduty · 15/08/2017 17:11

It's the name of my Scottish Terrier (after Miss Jean, another formidable lass).

Whathaveilost · 15/08/2017 17:12

It's not unisex, it's a boys name. I'm in Scotland and know a few little Brodies but they are boys Because it's a boys name
Lol! Love it!
I'm in England and low a few Bodies but they are girls. Because it is a unisex name!

JB1983 · 15/08/2017 17:15

My flatmate at uni was Brodie, so it definitely can be a girls name in scotland. I think it's lovely.

toldmywrath · 15/08/2017 17:20

I love the name Brodie. But I honestly thought it was only a boy's name, never met a girl with that moniker.
Concurring with previous posters: it is of Scottish origin and is either a(male) forename or surname.

Having said that I rather like the sound of it for a girl.

BertrandRussell · 15/08/2017 17:24

Around 25 girls a year over the last 10 years.

But people would always think "boy"

There is no such thing as a unisex name- there are boys names that are used for girls. And, interestingly, soon become girl's names-because people never call boys by names that might make people think they are girls. Which is a point worth considering.

Willow2017 · 15/08/2017 18:00

I know a female Brodie really like it. We are in Scotland so maybe more common as a girls name here.
