Naming isn't easy

Hi!!
I'd love some advice on the use of Ted, I adore the name. However I worry that when baby (yellow one) is older they would prefer a name such as Edward and then they can have their own variation of a nickname.

We recently lost DP father and we we're taken with 'Michael, before he suddenly passed, as middle name as it's a strong family name on both sides.

Girls names are all sorted.

Any advice would be super!

Use Edward or Theodore on the birth certificate but just always use Ted. Your baby! You can do whatever you want. Or just use Ted. If he knows he's Ted, he'll always want to be Ted.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 13/08/2017 10:01

You could also use Edwin, Edmund or Tedric.

IndianaMoleWoman · 13/08/2017 10:06

Teduardo
Tedison
Tedmund

Only joking! There's an obsession on here with having a "proper" name for the birth certificate and you get some pretty tenuous links suggested.

Ted Michael/ Edward Michael/ Theodore Michael are all lovely, Theodore would be my favourite.

Jooni · 13/08/2017 13:28

Edward, Edmund and Theodore are all lovely, but equally I think it's fine to just use Ted if that's the name you want. My son has a nickname name on the BC - I liked the longer form, but not as much and wasn't keen on the other potential shortenings, so it made sense just to put the name I wanted to call him on the BC. Would you mind if your Ted chose to go by Eddie or Theo later on?

teach2922 · 13/08/2017 13:46

No I wouldn't mind at all. I'd like to think the name would grow and change with him as he does but at the same time I just love Ted. It's just such a hard choice as outside influences say 'He needs a proper name!'

what's "yellow one" mean?

Snap8TheCat · 13/08/2017 14:15

I came to ask the same thing! Maybe a typo? But I can't think what for !

IndianaMoleWoman · 13/08/2017 14:17

It means they don't know the baby's sex. Lots of pregnancy/parenting forums use team pink (girls), team blue (boys) and team yellow (waiting until the birth to find out).

Snap8TheCat · 13/08/2017 14:22

Grin bloody hell! Grown women do that? Grin

blackcherries · 13/08/2017 14:25

oh dear lord what is wrong with people
My boy's bedroom is yellow. Assigning colours to genders is at best ridiculous and at worst harmful - read a thread just this morning about a boy who wanted a butterfly face paint and his parents refused fgs.

blackcherries · 13/08/2017 14:26

(also confusing: I have a sensory condition, that means I perceive the word Edward as yellow...)

wobblywonderwoman · 13/08/2017 14:32

Theodore is gorgeous.

BackforGood · 13/08/2017 14:33

I like both Edward and Michael, but I would use the full name on the birth certificate.
I have a longer name that is never used in day to day life, and I quite like the fact that I have the choice.

It it also useful for a dc to know they are in trouble, as that's when you'll use their full name Wink

sonlypuppyfat · 13/08/2017 14:38

Harmful!? Oh get over yourself

blackcherries · 13/08/2017 14:49

sonlypuppyfat can you explain what you mean?

IAmTheDragon · 13/08/2017 14:52

Name him Ted. He can always use his middle name later in life if needed.

sonlypuppyfat · 13/08/2017 14:58

You can't assigned colours to genders? Imagine having that much time on your hands that you found that important

harmony871 · 13/08/2017 15:38

My friends little boy is called Teddy. I didn't like it at first but he is an adorable little Teddy Grin I think when he gets older (only 3 at the min) he will possibly like to be called Ted

17caterpillars1mouse · 13/08/2017 15:49

I like Ted but prefer it as a nn

Theodore
Edward
Edmund
Edison
Edgar

Possible even Thaddeus

teach2922 · 13/08/2017 16:26

I hadn't thought of Thaddeus!! That is beautiful.
Sorry for causing any issues with 'yellow' just a term others have used. Baby has a grey room if that helps.

Awandinmypocket · 13/08/2017 17:13

I too like Ted but prefer it as a nickname, I love the name Edward! Such a classic!

Oh and don't worry about saying 'yellow' at all, people on here get their knickers in a twist over the most ridiculous things-we know you weren't implying any gender stereotypes!

AmyOb · 13/08/2017 18:28

Ted is nice but I would also prefer it as a nick name. Thaddeus is good too or maybe even Teodore. However, its your choice cause its your baby.

MsPassepartout · 13/08/2017 18:33

I quite like Tedison Grin

But on a more serious note, Edward and Theodore are both nice.

Sophronia · 14/08/2017 00:56

Thaddeus Michael would be great.

TurquoiseOwl · 14/08/2017 01:00

OP, Ted is lovely. I know lots of old men called Ted. I think it sounds grown up. There are so many Teddys (I know Teddies too) that I don't think any will care that's their name.
