Blake or Bowen for a boy? Ideas for a middle name for either?

Blake.

Bowen sounds a bit too much like bone.

squoosh · 11/08/2017 13:49

Plus the aforementioned Jim 'look what you didn't win' Bowen. Although that will mean nothing to anyone under the age of 40! Grin

GaryNumanIsOlderThanGaryOldman · 11/08/2017 13:50

Blake.

ShotsFired · 11/08/2017 13:54

Bowen sounds really really try-hard.

Blake is a preppy little American kid's name. Just doesn't work in a Britis accent (sorry if you are American, in which case, if you don't mind the Dynasty connection, go for it)

Can you seriously imagine yourself calling either of those out across a playground?

countycouncil · 11/08/2017 13:54

I like Blake, or Blair.

Idratherhaveacupoftea · 11/08/2017 14:05

I know a Bowen, he hates it and all the kids at school laugh about his name. Please don't do it.

xjasminex · 11/08/2017 14:10

I like Blake. My partner likes Bowen. I also like Blair but he's not so keen.

Don't like Bowen at all

MikeUniformMike · 11/08/2017 14:20

Blake.
Bowen is a bit try-hard. It is like Penry and Parry. All are son of name.
(ab Owen, ap Henry ap Harry).
Prefer Owen.

MikeUniformMike · 11/08/2017 14:21

Blair. Hmm Tony.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 11/08/2017 14:22

oh god, Blake!

Bowen - what pronunciation were you going for? And it's too close to bowel anyway.

MikeUniformMike · 11/08/2017 14:26

You could have a little family of prime ministers. Eden, May, George, Cameron, Blair, Wilson, Heath ...

Coconutspongexo · 11/08/2017 14:28

I have a Blake! Often get told it's a girls name though Hmm (Blake friggin Lively)
My sons middle name is a very traditional name.

I think a traditional name will go nice :)

RiverTam · 11/08/2017 14:38

Bowen doesn't sound like a name at all, even in this day and age. And you'd get people constantly asking if it's to rhyme with cow or row.

So Blake.

RiverTam · 11/08/2017 14:38

Just realised you can pronounce row both ways! As in row row row your boat.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 11/08/2017 16:43

Definitely Blake!

I like Blake Alexander (though check what the initials might spell!?!)

countycouncil · 11/08/2017 17:58

Ooopppss, I'm not a UKer so didn't make the Blair connection.

Sophronia · 11/08/2017 18:59

Blake

glowwormsunite · 12/08/2017 01:02

Blake. Bowen is awful. Drop the 'B' & Owen is nice enough. Or Rowan is a beautiful name.

DramaAlpaca · 13/08/2017 00:13

I love Blake. It's one of the few surnamey first names I like.

I don't like Bowen, or Blair.

SerfTerf · 13/08/2017 00:16

Blake is quite nice.

Bowen doesn't sound like a forename.

ThursdayLastWeek · 13/08/2017 00:19

They both sound like surnames to me.
Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but not my taste.
