Maybe this has been done to death on here, but I've just seen it described on another thread as 'chavvy' Hmm

I adore the name and would probably choose it for a boy if I am lucky enough to have another. I know that it has become quite popular, but funnily enough I don't know any.

Thoughts?

I'd consider Noam to be more like Hebrew names such as Chaim rather than Old Testament names.

Jooni · 10/08/2017 22:10

Ah, just had a quick Google and I don't think Noam is in the Bible as such. Apparently it's the male form of Naomi though, which is in there.

Anyway, as you were.

user10794etc · 10/08/2017 22:36

I think it's classless and a fine name. It's not number one in the UK (that's Oliver and has been for a few years now) but it is in the top 10 so it's quite popular. But, so?

DramaAlpaca · 10/08/2017 23:25

I'm always saying it on here, but I can't stand hearing names referred to as 'chavvy'. It's such a nasty term.

As for Noah, personally I don't like it at all but loads of people clearly do as it's very popular.

Singingforsanity · 10/08/2017 23:27

Noah's lovely, and although it's had a recent surge in popularity so will probably 'date', I don't see this being such a big problem for this generation as ours. Simply because there is a much wider range of names being used than for example when I was at school and there were 2 Janes, 3 Louises and a Claire to every class. 'Popular' names are less popular than they used to be and I only know of 1 Noah, who is 4 I think. Btw I pronounce Noam as 'No-um' but I've no idea if it's right (only ever used it in ref to Noam Chomsky)!

TurquoiseOwl · 10/08/2017 23:51

I absolutely love Noah, it's my favourite boy's name. I've also seen it described as 'chavvy' which is just ridiculous.

TurquoiseOwl · 10/08/2017 23:52

I am always really surprised to hear of an adult Noah though.

Buntysoven · 11/08/2017 00:36

I have a friend Noah who is in his 30s. He's Brazilian though

Beachbaby2017 · 11/08/2017 00:40

I have an adult friend named Noah. I've never thought of it as an unusual name, but I do tend to think of it as a Jewish name - not that it has to be, though.

Sophronia · 11/08/2017 02:13

It is very popular. It still makes me think of Noah's Ark though!

Susiethetortoiseshellcat · 11/08/2017 06:39

I taught a teenager called Noah about 5 years ago and remember thinking what a gorgeous name it was. I still like it but it's just so popular now. It's almost expected when there's a baby announcement in the same way Oliver was a couple of years ago. I think it's unlikely to date badly though as it's been around so long.

grufallosfriend · 12/08/2017 07:11

I really dislike the sound of Noah. It sounds like a whiny No.

GodIsDead · 12/08/2017 07:18

Biblical names are a non-starter for me. Also I already know a few boys and girls named Noah.

getonthearkunicorn · 12/08/2017 07:24

I have a Noah. He is named for a few reasons but one of them after a 70 something Noah!
It is popular because it's charting high however he has always been the only one in his settings. He's 5.
It's lovely!

getonthearkunicorn · 12/08/2017 07:24

Also I think old man on an ark is a lovely association!

sandgrown · 12/08/2017 07:30

I have a GS called Noah. I love it. The only other person I know called Noah is over 80 and from a time when biblical names were very common.

Ifyouthinkiwillsleepyoudream · 12/08/2017 07:40

LOVE Noah

bookworm14 · 12/08/2017 07:56

It's very popular, but that's not the same as 'chavvy' (nasty term anyway). I wouldn't let popularity put you off if you really like it - popular names are often popular because they're nice!

user1459464195 · 12/08/2017 08:58

Just FYI, I only know of one Noah - a Facebook friend's child and they live in New Zealand. Never come across any others and I have a toddler in nursery. Just saying it's not all that popular across the UK (I'm in the South East BTW).

Plus I think it's a classic handsome name. I particularly like the combination of Noah Benjamin.

getonthearkunicorn · 12/08/2017 15:36

@user145946195 that is the best combination ever Grin

Monny1 · 12/08/2017 15:46

Love, Love, Love, Love the name Noah. My son is called Noah.

Annabelle4 · 12/08/2017 15:49

Mine would be 'Noah James'. Noah Benjamin is great too. I think it definitely needs a strong middle name.
I'm not even pregnant Blush

Around 2000 l taught a boy called Noah and thought what a lovely unusual name . However it suddenly popped up everywhere and except for Jack seems to be the most popular around here.

early30smum · 12/08/2017 19:58

Love it! Was number 1 on the list for DS but made the mistake of mentioning it to my parents who hated it (said it was chavvy!) and they'd refuse to call him that! Hmm

user10794etc · 12/08/2017 20:02

who hated it (said it was chavvy!) and they'd refuse to call him that

I've heard people saying this on here before and still can't believe anyone would be that rude. If anyone ever refused to call my child by the name I chose for them, I'd refuse to ever call them over to visit.
