DP really likes the name Aaron

I associate it with naughty children due to knowing a lot of Aaron's in my childhood!

But I think I could warm to the alternative spelling of Aron?

Opinions???

Really really dislike it. Sorry op. I know an Aran-the spelling makes it no better.

tittletattoo · 10/08/2017 11:50

It's ok I'm not the biggest fan either Sad

I like it but I'm in Scotland and it's quite common but I dislike the new spelling you've suggested. Definitely stick with Aaron.

Chaffinch4 · 10/08/2017 12:38

I say them completely differently:
Aaron = air-ron
Aron = ah-ron

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 10/08/2017 12:40

I'm south east and I hear them all pronounced to rhyme with Darren.

imnottoofussed · 10/08/2017 12:43

Aaron is said as air-on where I'm from.

BackforGood · 10/08/2017 12:57

Aaron

You are creating problems for someone for the next 90 years of their life if you give them a well known name and then choose to spell it differently.

DragonsandDungeons · 10/08/2017 13:01

Arun (a-roon) instead maybe?

DragonsandDungeons · 10/08/2017 13:01

Fwiw I really like Aaron. Would've used it if it wasn't DPs cousin.

PuppyMonkey · 10/08/2017 13:05

I am ancient so was brought up to pronounce this name Air-on.

I've also been to the Isle of Arran and it was full of midges.

Yika · 10/08/2017 13:46

I much prefer Aaron, pronounced Air-un.

What about Alon?

Sophronia · 10/08/2017 14:40

I really like Aaron, and don't mind the Arran spelling either. I pronounce them both to rhyme with Darren and Karen.

Writerwannabe83 · 10/08/2017 15:45

I have an Arron Grin

My DH loved the name through my entire pregnancy but I wasn't too keen. However, when DS arrived I ageeed to it but said we aren't spelling it Aaron because I don't want him bring called Air-ron because I hate that name.

My Arron is 3 now and I love his name.

temporarilyjerry · 10/08/2017 20:27

I used to teach two of these in the same class - one pronounced Air-un and one Arran. If you want the Arran pronunciation, I'd go for that spelling.

Floellabella · 10/08/2017 23:54

I know a posh Arran, named after the Scottish isle, definitely not a chav!

MikeUniformMike · 11/08/2017 13:33

Aaron would be Air-on, Aron, Aran or Arron falls into the Darren/Karen/Sharon category.
If you use it, choose Aaron and expect a lifetime of Airon/Arron pronunciation.

Dontrocktheboat · 11/08/2017 14:25

Aaron is pronounced Air-on, which is lovely.

I can't stand Aaron if mispronounced Arran. If you want to say it like that I'd spell it as such.

It's a classic Old Testament name. I wouldn't make up an alternative spelling for this reason, but if you are going to pronounce it Arran spell it like the island.

LetZygonsbeZygones · 12/08/2017 15:39

It was my late DFs Hebrew name. His was spelled Aharon? My nephew is Aaron? Prouniunced airon.

TidyDancer · 12/08/2017 18:38

Aaron is pronounced like Darren and is quite a nice name. Aron is pronounced the same but doesn't look as nice imo.

DramaAlpaca · 13/08/2017 00:11

To me Aaron is pronounced air-on, so not the same as Aron.

I like Arran better than both of those.
